Maldin's Managerial Debut

Today is the day Maldini has been waiting for over the last month and a half. His managerial debut! He is still a month or so away from his league managerial debut but in a way Maldini found it slighlty ironic that the man who excelled in so many seperate cup competitions was about to make is debut as a manager in the cup. Things would be difficult that Maldini knew, an away trip to Trapani. A hostile enviroment at the best of times, but he he had prepped his men well they were ready and raring to go. Today was match day!!

The squad had travelled down the day before the match as they wanted to use their own facilities in preperation for this tie. As Maldini stepped of the bus Trapani fans crowded the entrance of the 3* hotel that his side would be staying at that night, desperate to get his autograph. But it was not a time of interaction with admirers. Today he had to chose which team to pick and whether to stick with his trusted formation..... for the first time in his life he felt nerves before a match. The winner inside wanted only one thing tommorow. A win!

The Line Up

The next morning Maldini handed out the peice of paper where he had typed up the starting eleven.

Vivan
Pelagatti
Bonetto
Olivieri
Maury
Pacciardi
Doumbia
Lunardini
Calvano
Dutra
Rossini

This was Maldini's starting eleven. The eleven he trusted to bring home his first win.

It's Show Time!

00:00: And were off! It's Maldini's first game in charge here today agaisnt a strong looking Trapani side that are looking to progress further in the competition. San Marino Calcio are up against it here today!

14:38:Bonetto stands over the freekick here a great postion to cross the ball. The ref blows his whistle and Bonetto runs up.... he swings it in AND ROSSINI IS THERE!!!!! 1-0 TO SAN MARINO CALCIO!! Extraordinary! It has been all Trapani yet it is San Marino who take the lead, with a stunning header from 5yards out.

38:54:Trapani given the corner, Gambino to swing it inwards. Headed away by Rossini but straight back to Gambino who crosses it in. It falls to Filippi.. GOOOOOOOOOAL! 1-1 and lucky goal for Tapani but they all count! Filippi sliced the ball towards goal and the poor keeper is trapped in the center of the goal by his team mate it then strikes the keeper on the shoulder and rolls in. GAME ON!

Half Time 1-1

45:00:We are under way here in the second half!

90:00:A very dull second half not a shot on target! But on to extra time!

90:00:We are under way in extra time!

98:37:Trapani have the ball on the edge of the San Marino box, it's crossed in by Basso. AND GAMBINO IS THERE!!!!!!! 2-1 TRAPANI!!! Wait the flag is up! Offside has been given what drama.

113:15:Doumbia on the edge of the area passes it back to Bonetto. What was the point of that all momentum is now gone from this move. But Bonetto is unchallanged he casually strolls forward, Trpani keeping their line. BONETTO!!!!!!!!! WHAT A STUNNER!! Bonetto took the ball from what I thought was a pointless backpass from Doumbia, he strolled forward then from 20yards out smashed a rocket into the far right corner. 2-1 San Marino, Maldini is so close to a debut win he can almost taste it!

120:15:Bontto crosses the ball..... Ohhhh over the defense but Doumbia chases afte the ball and keeps it in. He pulls the ball back, Pelagatti OH MY GOODNESS!!!! ANOTHER STUNNER! Similar to the Bonetto goal but just into the opposite corner! San Marino lead 3-1 and have secured victory!

120:00It's game over here! San Marino win and Maldini gets a debut winner!

A debut win for Maldini!

Maldini's First Defeat As Manager

Today was not a good day for Paolo Maldini. His side suffered defeat today at the hands of Virtus Lanciano, from the league above.

San Marino Calcio never got a foothold in the match as they were outclassed at all times on all areas of the pitch for the full 90minutes.

Brilliant first win, and an unlucky first defeat. Keep going :D

September Update

Maldini will be content with how is career has progressed so far. He has shown the world that he likes to keep his players happy and is not afraid of roatating his team.

San Marino VS Portogruaro overview:A very dull first half that saw only three shots throughout it. But Maldini looked deperate to lead his men to victory in his first league game. Things got off to a good start in the second half as Dutra scored a fluke goal on 53 minutes. He attempted to cross the ball but instead the ball floated into the top right corner. Portogruaro equalised just two minutes later with a slick one two on the edge of the area, leaving the goalkeeper helpless to prevent a cool finish by Herzan. Then things changed as Stefanelli was subbed on. He scored a stunner from 25yards out with on 82minutes. He then secured the win on the 90th minute with a lucky goal from 7yards out. A result that left Maldini feeling happy!

Carpi VS San Marino overview:A very dull match which Maldini could not lead his men to victory. The only goal of the game came in the second half as Carpi scored a penalty after 53 minutes. Try as hard as they want San Marino could not break down Carpi's solid defense.

Sam Marino VS Como overview: San Marino had not yet established a reputation for being an entertaining team and this continued this match. Como hit the post three times with in the first three minuted but after that the game settled down. Then on the 56 minutes Dutra scored a screamer from 30 yards out to win the match.

Cuneo VS San Marino overview: Less said the better. Cuneo outplayed San Marino from start to finish.

Managers View
