Glenn Hoddle also managed the Glenn Hoddle Academy, which I remember from FM 2009.
I know, but that wasn't really very significant.

Glenn Hoddle has dropped veteran Aliaksandr Yurevich from his first Belarus squad. The full back has played nearly his whole career in Belarus and currently plys his trade at BATE Borisov, the reigning Belarusian champions. Hoddle has said that Yurevich, pictured challenging an England player above, is 'not in the frame' and the 32 year old will have to lose a few years of age to fit into Hoddle's set up. Yurevich however has said that he agrees with the managers reasoning. "I can't say I'm not disappointed but I understand that he thinks Belarus can become a strong side in the next few years and he will need young players to develop in order to do that. He has said that I may get back in to the team and of course I will fight for that position".
I can't say I know much about Belarusian footballers so will learn a lot by following this story. Good luck for the journey.

Me neither, I'd heard of Hleb and that was it really. Thanks for your support!

Belarus announce new kits

Belarus have announced their new kits for the rest of the year. The previous deal with Puma has run out and the Belarusian team's kits will now be supplied by Errea. They have chosen innovation over tradition with the kits, with a shocking green and white hooped away kit and a blue and black third kit. The public however, seem quite happy with the new kits. Recently installed manager Glenn Hoddle has publicly praised Errea for their sublime designs. "I love the new kits, and to be honest, who wouldn't? I obviously don't know much in the way of Belarusian Football traditions but to most people, who do not know a thing about Belarus, they look very nice". Errea's designer Justice96 has already told the press of his delight that the kits have been well recieved. "It's not exactly the most traditional kit, but it shows the way Belarus are going under Hoddle. They have to look to the future". The kits are shown below.

You are very true. Plus, I think they were even worse than Acrington Stanley!

Belarus vs Poland

My first game in charge was a friendly, at home to Poland. I was worried as to how we would deal with Lewandowski's clinical finishing and Blaszcyzkowski's pace but we quietened them with a strong back four of Shytau, Trubilo, Filipenka and Verkhovtsov. We didn't attack much either but we could be pleased with the result, Poland are a half-decent side. In the dressing, I loaded the internet on my phone to check what the media made of our peformance.

Belarus hold Poland to bore draw

Belarus have made a teriffic start under new manager Glenn Hoddle with a 0-0 draw at home to favourites Poland. There was not many chances for either side, but Belarus played well and, altough they couldn't win, could be very pleased with their performance.

Then I checked Match.by, another Belarusian website.

Those reports went quite favourably, but I decided to check some other reports to see what the press thought we could improve on. I noticed that they had a little more possession, but we completed a higher percentage of passes and won more tackles than them, but neither side even had one clear chance. It clearly wasn't the best of games, but it was a decent result. Then, the press officer came round the corner. I had to do the post match interview.

Post Match Interview

Reporter: Going live in 3..2..1..OK! Well, hello there Glenn, your first game as manager of Belarus. How do you think it went?
Glenn Hoddle: It was good. We maybe could have edged it but I am happy with a draw against Poland, they are a top side and we matched them.
R: The fans will probably be a little annoyed, it wasn't the most entertaining game, what did you make of it? Bore draw?
GH: Yes, well it definitely wasn't the best game but we can improve, and against worse sides we will be a lot less defensive, but football is a results game and you have to get the best possible results, no matter how you do it.
R: Err, that should be enough Glenn, thank you.
GH: No problem.

Thanks, I'll need all the luck I can get!

Portugal vs Belarus

Our next game, relatively close to the last one, was away from home against Portugal. They were obviously the favourites but we put up a decent fight, yet we lost. Ryhor Filipenko was, once again, our star performer.

Lineups
Portugal: Eduardo, J Pereira, Pepe, B Alves, F Coentrao, M Veloso, J Moutinho, A Castro, M Fernandes, H Almeida, C Ronaldo

Belarus: S Veremenko, I Shaytau, D Verkhovtsov, R Filipenka, M Bardachou, S Politevich, D Baha, A Putsila, A Hleb, S Drayhun.

Again, I checked what the press thought of our results.

Portugal snatch victory
Portugal defeated Belarus 3-1 in Lisbon as preparation for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. They took the lead through a Bruno Alves header and Cristiano Ronaldo doubled their lead, yet Belarus showed fighting spirit as Ryhor Filipenko pulled one back, but the Portuguese got another goal late on to win. Belarus will be proud of their performance despite the result.

Clearly, they had more possession and that was to be expected. I couldn't be angry with the players, they gave their all, but Portugal were just too good. We only had 2 shots, but both were on target and we showed that we wanted it more, but we couldn't match them in terms of ability. I walked into the press room for the post match interview.

Post Match Interview

Reporter: Right, err, Glenn, you lost today, do you think you could have done better?
Glenn Hoddle: No. We gave our all. Portugal are just a stronger side than us so we didn't expect to win, we needed to find out what we would have to do against better teams like France and Spain who are in our group.
R: True, but did you feel when Filipenko scored that you could have gotten something out of it?
GH: It was closer than the scoreline suggests, we defended well and they attacked well, they defended well and we attacked well. We maybe could have gotten a draw, but the goal gave us hope and we improved in the second half.
R: OK, one last question. Will you qualify for the World Cup?
GH: I certainly hope so, but I think the nation will have to wait for the Euro's in France. We can qualify for that for sure.
R: Thank you Glenn.
GH: My pleasure.
Real nice kits and awesome start, will be following.
