HOWE LEAVES BURNLEY

Eddie Howe has left Burnley due to family reasons as he travels back down south to be with his family.

"It's been a really tough week," he told Burnley's website.

"To leave is incredibly difficult, but I feel it's a decision I have to make for my family and for personal reasons, which I can't go into detail on."

Burnley confirmed on their website that Howe's exit was due to "personal and family reasons" but joint chairmen John Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick said they had not expected him to leave.

"We are surprised and disappointed that Eddie is leaving a great club like Burnley so soon before the start of the season," a statement from the pair read.

"However, we understand that his decision reflects his personal circumstances rather than any matters at Burnley Football Club, be that supporters, the players or the board."
A good start. Good luck for the season.

BURNLEY APPOINT GREZZA

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/47623000/jpg/_47623072_alexander_av512.jpg

Burnley have moved quick to appoint former Clarets ace Graham Alexander as their new manager, who has signed a 1-year deal worth around £9,500 a week. Alexander only has a year to prove that he is the right man to lead the club forward.

Alexander, or Grezza as the fans call him has had previous player-coach roles at Burnley and Preston.

"It's a dream come true to finally get into football management, especially with Burnley, a club I hold very close to my heart. I spent 4 years here as a player and helped us reach promotion to the Premier League; I plan to do the same again but this time as Manager. I can' wait to get in there and meet the lads and get started."
Good start.

Meeting the Squad

http://i48.tinypic.com/2qsbi14.jpg

Today I took my first training session with the lads and I've got to say I'm quite impressed. Burnley might not be known as a big and glamorous club but what we do have is a solid squad with good cover in all positions.

Come the end of the 4-hour training session 4 players stood out for me. If I am to have any success this season keeping these lads fit and ready will be key. The players are:

Kieran Trippier

I can't wait to see Kieran play this season. He has pace to burn and a bag full of tricks to use every time he goes forward. One day this kid will play at the top level and it’s my job to make sure it’s with Burnley.

Jason Shackell
http://i45.tinypic.com/jt88l5.jpg

Jason is playing in a relatively young defence so his Championship experience will prove vital to us this season. He's a real team leader and will be my first choice captain.

Chris McCann

Chris will be battling in the heart of our midfield, both going forward and defensively. On his day he is just as good as anyone in this league.

Charlie Austin

Charlie has a fantastic goals to game ratio in this league and I fully expect him to be challenging for the Golden Boot at the end of the season.
I raise my glass of Bénédictine to you and wish you good luck with the story!

Burnley have today confirmed to signing of Norway international John Carew on a free transfer. The ex-Aston Villa and West Ham target man has joined the Clarets on a 2-year deal worth around 9k a week.

It was thought that the 32 year old was considering retiring from the game early but when Burnley gaffer Graham Alexander came calling there was only one choice to be made:

“Within the first 5 minutes of meeting with Graham I knew moving to Burnley was the right choice for me. I can’t wait to get stuck in and help this wonderful club in its aim to re-join the Premier League.”

Burnley boss Alexander was as equally delighted to have Carew onboard:

“John will prove to be a huge sighing for the club - he’s a big name player who has scored goals all his career which is just what we need. Looking at our squad we only have 3 fit forwards, as Danny Ings is out for at least 6-months so not only will John provide good cover but it will also introduce healthy competition for everyone else.”

Pre-Season

http://i45.tinypic.com/zq003.jpg

I finally got to see my squad in action and I have to say I was quite impressed. We picked up some goods results and remained unbeaten, which is always positive.

After rotating my squad almost every game I think I've finally decided on my starting line-up for the season, fingers crossed I’ve got it right and we pick up some good results early on.

Not long to go until the season starts...
Nice signing in Carew, and great pre-season results
