Sheffield Wednesday - Club Overview

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a football club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, who are now competing in the Football League Championship, following automatic promotion from League One at the end of the 2011–12 season. Sheffield Wednesday is one of the oldest professional clubs in the world and the third oldest in the English league. They won the second football competition ever held, the Cromwell Cup, which remains in their possession. The Wednesday, as they were named until 1929, were founding members of The Football Alliance in 1889, and its first champions that inaugural season. The Wednesday joined The Football League three years later when the leagues merged. Sheffield Wednesday were also one of the founding members of The Premier League in 1992.

Their main rivals are Sheffield United, the two clubs having contested the Steel City derby on a regular basis for some 100 years. Barnsley, Leeds United, Rotherham United, Chesterfield and Doncaster Rovers are also local rivals. The Owls have spent the majority of their history in the top flight of English football since joining the Football League in 1892. They have won four League titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup, but their League Cup triumph in 1991 is their only major trophy since 1935. They did reach both domestic cup finals in 1993, but lost 2–1 to Arsenal at Wembley on both occasions.

They play their home matches at Hillsborough Stadium in the north-western suburb of Owlerton. It is a 39,732 all-seater stadium built in 1899 when the lease expired at their previous ground of Olive Grove.

2012-13 Season Expectations

In 2012-13, the board expects Sheffield Wednesday to achieve a comfortable mid-table position in the nPower Championship. To accomplish this you have been given a transfer budget of £250k to spend, and a total wage structure of £160k p/w, of which £14k of this is free to spend. The board would like to point you towards free transfers and the loan market for your transfers for this season.

Sheffield Wednesday - Tactics

Chris Waddle walked into his office at Hillsborough, and sat down at his desk. He opened his swanky new laptop, and immediately saw something on his screen. "1 New Message". He clicked on the notification, and saw that it was from his assistant manager Paul Wilkinson.

"Hi Chris, just thought I'd send you an email to remind you that we need to discuss tactics for the season ahead soon. I've prepared three which I feel are the right ones for us, and I have included them as attatchments."

Waddle sent a quick message back to his assistant saying that the tactics looked great and they should be trialed in pre-season, before sitting back to relax.

Nice 4-2-3-1 tactic, keep up the good work!

Thanks Jason, I will :)

MrJK:

You should know by now that I don't create tactics :P although the third one was designed by me, then perfected by RandydeB
Tactic 1 brought me a lot of success at Liverpool however it does strongly rely on having good wingers who have a lot of pace.

Great to see you starting up another story Blue!

Wednesday Sign Carroll On Loan

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed their first signing under new manager Chris Waddle, after completing the loan signing of Thomas Carroll from Tottenham until the end of the season. He is expected to be backup for this season, but that could change depending on circumstances.

One thing Waddle mentioned when he joined the club was that he was looking into the possibility of signing a central midfielder, and expected to be looking towards the loan market. He is said to be delighted to have captured Carroll for the 2012-13 season, and may even try to sign him next summer if the loan goes well.

Some may feel that the choice of signing Carroll is an odd one, as he is yet to prove himself at the level Wednesday are playing at. Many are unsure if he will be able to cope in a side that will most likely be fighting against relegation, and whether he is ready for the pressure. Carroll, however, will feel that this is the perfect chance for him to show the coaching staff at his parent club Tottenham how good he really is, and push himself into their plans for next season.

The Owls are paying Carroll's £1.5k p/w wage until the end of his loan, and he will wear the number 8 shirt for the Sheffield club.
