Southampton FC - The Shearer Era

Introduction

Welcome, this is my second attempt at writing a story after my Man City save was corrupted. I was originally planning to start another story with City but because a lot of people are already playing as them I decided to do something and go for a team that would be more of a challenge. I managed Southampton in FM12 and had a lot of fun, so I decided to go for them. I appreciate any feedback, hope you enjoy the story!

Who Am I?

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer is an ex-professional footballer who was considered by many to be one of the best strikers ever to play in England. During his career he played for Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle. He is the Premier League’s top goalscorer with 260 goals and won 63 caps for England, scoring 30 goals. In 2006 he retired and worked as a pundit for the BBC before entering management for a short period when he took charge of Newcastle for their final eight games of the 2008/09 season, but he was unsuccessful and the club were unable to avoid relegation.
Nice start m8 :) Good luck!

Nigel Adkins Resigns as Saints Boss

http://i34.tinypic.com/b7kmra.jpg

In a shocking turn of events, Nigel Adkins has resigned from his position as Southampton manager. The news broke this morning when the following announcement appeared on the club’s official website:

“It is with great sadness that we must announce that Nigel Adkins has parted ways with club, on behalf of the club and it’s fans we wish to thank Nigel for all he did for the team and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

All though no official reason has been given for his departure it is rumored that a dispute with the club’s chairman Nicola Cortese lead to his resignation. The Saints fans will no doubt be upset about the news after Adkins guided their team to consecutive promotions from League One.

The Southampton boardroom will now looking be searching for a replacement and despite the growing speculation, there are no early signs to suggest who will take the reins at Saint Mary's Stadium.
Really good start! Keep it up m8.

Shearer Named New Southampton Boss

http://i34.tinypic.com/2uqzrep.jpg

After a week of uncertainty and wild speculation the mystery surrounding the managerial vacancy at Southampton has been solved. It was confirmed last night that Alan Shearer will return to his former club, this time as it's manager.

The club’s decision to appoint Shearer received mixed reactions from supporters, while most of the Saints’ fans hold Shearer in high regard and are happy to welcome back the former player, some are have doubts whether Shearer is the best man for the job, his failed spell at Newcastle being his only past experience in management.

The club’s spokesperson released a brief statement claiming that Shearer was delighted to have been hired and is raring to get down to work. It is believed that Shearer will be introduced to his new team tomorrow and preparations for pre-season will get underway.
I think someone has tried to be Alan Shearer before and it never took off so it would be great if this one did. Good luck.

Shearer’s First Day

There were gasps of excitement as a gleaming Bentley pulled up in the car-park. After a few moments, the door opened and out stepped Alan Shearer, dressed in a smart black suit accompanied by a red and white tie. He was met by cheers from the fans who had gathered outside the training ground and the flashing cameras of the frantic paparazzi. Smiling, he approached the entrance, stopping to sign a few autographs and take pictures with fans before disappearing through the doors of Southampton’s training ground.

Press Conference

AS – Alan Shearer
J– Journalist

J – Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your new job, how does it feel to be back at Southampton?

AS – Thanks, it really is great to be back. I have a lot of fond memories from my time here as a player and hopefully they’ll be more good times in store for me now as a manager.

J – Obviously you have a lot of fans here at Saint Mary’s, but others are claiming you haven’t got what it takes to be a successful manager. How would you respond to those critics?

AS– Firstly, I’d like to thank the fans for the incredible support I have received over the last few days. As for anyone who has their doubts of me, the club have given me a second chance at management and I intend to take it and prove them wrong.

J – Nigel Adkins has already been busy in the summer transfer market, bringing in a number of players such as Jay Rodriguez and Stephen Davis, are you intending to bring in more players or stick with the squad you’ve got?

AS – I would have liked to bring in some of my own players but of course we have to think about our finances. I can’t see any huge transfers going through but I will still try to bring in one or two new faces.

J– Could you give us an insight into your goals for the season, and do you have any long term plans for Southampton?

AS – Obviously our primary will be staying up, though I feel that with the squad we’ve got, we can push for a mid-table spot. As for my long term plans, I’ve been given a one year deal but if things go well I don’t see why I can’t stay here for the long-term.

AS – If nobody else has any questions, I’d like to bring this press conference to a close. Thank you for your time.
Good update! keep it up :)

Manager’s Notebook – The Squad

I entered my office today to find a steaming cup of coffee waiting for me on the desk. I sat down and took a large gulp from the mug before looking around my new office, a fairly spacious room with expensive furniture and an impressive view of the training ground, "not bad" I thought to myself. The walls were mainly occupied by pictures of past players and managers but one caught my eye in particular, it showed a player that couldn't have been older than a teenager, beaming from ear to ear with one arm raised in celebration. I remember that day well. After all, it’s not every day you score a hat-trick on your debut.

After spending a little too long reminiscing, I noticed a single folder sitting in my inbox. I flipped it open and found it to be a squad report compiled my assistant manager:

After looking over the report, I was fairly pleased with how the squad looked. As for transfer targets, I would like to bring in a better right winger and possibly someone to cover at left back.

Key Players:

Artur Boruc

Nathaniel Clyne

Jack Cork

Gaston Ramirez

Ricky Lambert

EDIT: Sorry for the lack of updates recently guys, I had exams all last week and was too tired or busy to post, I will be continuing the story and will try to post extra over the next few days.

-Thanks for reading!
Nice update, Saints have a very good side and I will be following this :)
P.S: You messed up some of the coding, perhaps add [/centre] at the end to fix it (spell it center not centre)
