Shearer’s First Day
There were gasps of excitement as a gleaming Bentley pulled up in the car-park. After a few moments, the door opened and out stepped Alan Shearer, dressed in a smart black suit accompanied by a red and white tie. He was met by cheers from the fans who had gathered outside the training ground and the flashing cameras of the frantic paparazzi. Smiling, he approached the entrance, stopping to sign a few autographs and take pictures with fans before disappearing through the doors of Southampton’s training ground.

AS – Alan Shearer
J– Journalist
J – Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your new job, how does it feel to be back at Southampton?
AS – Thanks, it really is great to be back. I have a lot of fond memories from my time here as a player and hopefully they’ll be more good times in store for me now as a manager.
J – Obviously you have a lot of fans here at Saint Mary’s, but others are claiming you haven’t got what it takes to be a successful manager. How would you respond to those critics?
AS– Firstly, I’d like to thank the fans for the incredible support I have received over the last few days. As for anyone who has their doubts of me, the club have given me a second chance at management and I intend to take it and prove them wrong.
J – Nigel Adkins has already been busy in the summer transfer market, bringing in a number of players such as Jay Rodriguez and Stephen Davis, are you intending to bring in more players or stick with the squad you’ve got?
AS – I would have liked to bring in some of my own players but of course we have to think about our finances. I can’t see any huge transfers going through but I will still try to bring in one or two new faces.
J– Could you give us an insight into your goals for the season, and do you have any long term plans for Southampton?
AS – Obviously our primary will be staying up, though I feel that with the squad we’ve got, we can push for a mid-table spot. As for my long term plans, I’ve been given a one year deal but if things go well I don’t see why I can’t stay here for the long-term.
AS – If nobody else has any questions, I’d like to bring this press conference to a close. Thank you for your time.
