Why Is Rickie Lambert So Underrated?

Southampton is currently in the midst of a tough relegation battle that no one can guess who is going to be the three teams going down. The main reason Southampton have been able to stay just clear of the drop zone so far has been the unselfish work of their main striker Rickie Lambert. But even with that, he is severely underrated by the majority of footballing fans in England who still see him as a player that can only do well with teams that lump the ball to a target man. But if you watch Southampton then it is very apparent that he has a lot more to his game than just a lump it target man.
Rickie Lambert is a top striker that I think would play for most teams in the Premier League without a doubt. He is a very good finisher and can score with his head and either feet allowing Southampton to play their natural passing game as Rickie Lambert can play on the floor. This has been proven by the fact that Rickie Lambert has 12 goals so far this season with both head and feet. Another bonus of Rickie Lambert is the fact that he has never missed a penalty for Southampton meaning any chance he gets from the spot you can be pretty sure that he will finish from 12 yards. He is also very good at linking up the play because of his unselfishness and ability to hold up the ball either with his feet or by chesting the ball down to his on rushing teammates.
I think that the main reason that Rickie Lambert is so underrated is because of the fact that he came from the lower leagues from teams such as Bristol City, Stockport County and Blackpool. I think this leads to arrogance from many Premier League viewers and fans as he did not come from abroad or one of the supposed big teams and was not a big money transfer. These days, people only tend to like players that either come from abroad or were part of big money transfers. For example in the papers you are more likely to read about how Torres who was brought for £50 million not scoring than Rickie Lambert who came from the lower leagues scoring. I think this is a great injustice and I hope that Rickie Lambert will finally be given the respect he deserves if he helps to keep Southampton up this year.
