Nottingham Forest

The Cole Era

Nottingham Forest were known as one of the greatest English clubs of the late 20th century, winning the European Cup twice and cementing themselves in the top division of English football. Their most successful period was undoubtedly under Brian Clough, now a club legend, who ruled over the club for 18 years, creating a legacy for the Reds to march in to the future and continue with their success.

It perhaps did not go the way Clough anticipated it however, as the transition between the 20th and 21st century would see the Nottingham club fall to their knees, Forest unable to gain promotion to the Premier League and even dropping to League 1 on more than one occasion. It would mean that their last season in the top division was in the 1998-99 season.

Forest's fan-base had clearly deteriorated, but the loyal followers of the club were not too optimistic about the future of the club as they watched it yo-yo between the second and third division, most probably wondering if they would ever earn promotion, but a spark of hope flared when Kuwaiti businessman, Fawaz Al-Hasawi purchased the club and planned to invest in it.

Despite this, the club still suffered poor results and swapped managers, looking for something that would work. It seemed they were doomed to the Championship, but it was around this time that the Cole era began, the penultimate period in Nottingham Forest history.
Good luck with this Toon :) should be interesting!
Great start, hopefully you're the new Brian Clough!
IN TOON WE TRUST! I may not be a Forest fan but it would be good to see them in the Prem again. Good luck mate :)

Nottingham Forest Chairman, Fawaz Al-Hawasi was publicly insulted by newly appointed manager, Billy Davies. It is speculated Davies will not remain as coach for much longer.

Despite only recently being appointed as head-coach of the club, Scottish manager, Billy Davies was quick to make allegations that the owner of Nottingham Forest, Fawaz Al-Hawasi, knew nothing about running a club. He voiced his opinions over the social networking site, Twitter.

Can't believe the Chairman. He does not know anything about football or how to run a club, it's ridiculous. How he expects us to get results, I don't know.

His comments have not gone un-noticed by Al-Hawasi. When asked about them, he told press that he and the board were "Considering their next move." This likely means that they are looking for a new manager, and are ready to sack the Scotsman.
You're getting sacked in the morning...
WHO ARE YA, WHO ARE YA!! ;)

L.A. Galaxy Coach, Bruce Arena, has been made favorite for the job after Fawaz Al-Hawasi was spotted speaking to him in Los Angelese.

Shock As Cole Is Appointed Forest Coach

Inexperienced ex-footballer, Andy Cole has been appointed manager of Nottingham Forest following the resignation of Billy Davies, to the fans anger.

Andy Cole has been appointed head-coach of Nottingham Forest, following the resignation of Billy Davies, who departed the club the day after he insulted the club's chairman. Cole had a successful career as a forward, most notably making almost 200 appearances for Manchester United.

Cole joins from Huddersfield Town, where he was working as a coach.

"I love Man United, it's the club that made me who I am today, but I must admit that Forest was my boyhood club and I have followed it as long as I can remember, so this is an opportunity that I could not turn down. I am really looking forward to getting in to management, as I have tried coaching, but nothing as big as this."

Al-Hawasi's decision to appoint the English international has been criticized by many fans, who suggest that Cole is far too inexperienced, most fans preferring a manager to be at least tested in the lower leagues before making the step up.

Meanwhile, the controversy between Fawaz El-Hawasi and Billy Davies goes on, with the Scottish coach making yet another attack on the Kuwaiti businessman over Twitter. It is believed that the FA will intervene if the argument goes any further.

I've been forced out of the club to be replaced by an unproven amateur? Unbelievable. This only proves my point that El-Hawasi is clueless.
Shocking. Shouldn't they have appointed Pierre Van Hooijdonk? :P
Thank god 'job done' Billy is out, hopefully Cole is the new Brian Clough!
