Midfielders

Options - Antonio Valencia, Nani, Ashley Young, Bébé, Wilfried Zaha, Jack Barmby, Anderson, Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher, Nick Powell, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Mats Møller Dæhli, Ryan Giggs, Shinji Kagawa, Adnan Januzaj, Davide Petrucci

I have a lot of players who can operate in different roles however I think that I lack a left-winger and world class centre midfielder. On the right flank I have Valencia who will run all day plus I have Nani and Young (who can operate on the left even though they are right footed). As I have said the only natural left-winger I have is Giggs but due to his age I will mainly use him in a centre mid role or just behind the forward due to his creativity. In the centre of the park I have Cleverely who I believe can be a truly great player in time plus the consistent Carrick. I can also call on Fletcher (when he returns from his illness) and Anderson who I like as a player because he can operate in a number of roles. I also have Kagawa who is a new signing who operates behind the forward or on either wing. I can also call on Scholes if needed from the bench. I also have some very existing players coming through the ranks in Januzaj, Dæhli, Powell, Barmby, Petrucci and Tunnicliffe,
I followed you FM12 story and like everyone who experienced your brilliance in that story, i'll definitely be following this one.
Forward

Options - Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernández, Danny Welbeck, Robin van Persie, Ángelo Henríquez, Federico Macheda, Will Keane, James Wilson

I think I have the best forward line in the Premership and maybe in the world. With Rooney, Hernández, Welbeck, and star signing Van Persie. Van Persie will be my main striker going into the season as I think he is one of the best finishers in the world. I will look to use Rooney as more as a crater as well as a goal scorer. I will be looking to give Welbeck and Hernández as much game time as possible as I want to keep them both happy and I want them to develop as well. I also have Henríquez and Macheda out on loan and I am hoping that they get a lot of good game time and score lost of goals. I also have some good youngsters in Wilson and Keane (however Keane is out injured for most of the year).
Hi Godman,

I am new to FM Scout and looking forward to your story. Out of interest have you started the game with or without the transfer budget available in the first window?
Dunno about best in the world mate, but it is a good front line. :)
I think I had an orgasm when I saw this thread, loved FM12 story, and can't wait for this one

Haha, must have been good then.
I decided to have 3 formations that I will use; they are 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 (with wingers) and 4-3-2-1 (with wingers and three centre midfielders).

My thinking for using these formations was that I want my team to play an attacking controlling kind of football so this is where the 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 come into it. I also need a defensive tactic for Europe and also when I come up against teams that have stronger midfielders or are generally better. Plus I like my squads to know a variety or formations and tactic so when/if I need to change them they are ready to change instantly.

Pre Season

A good pre season with a couple of really good performances (especially against Napoli. As I have said the reason for shipping the couple of goals is because I had to go easy on Ferdinand and Vidic, as they are my only two fit central defenders.

Good start to pre-season Godman and good result against Napoli. Looking forward to seeing how the BPL fixtures kick off for you
Premier League Fixture - 19.08.12 – Stoke A

Formation 4-4-2
David De Gea, Rafael, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Nani, Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney
Subs Used – Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Shinji Kagawa

A good solid display away from home in my first league game of the season. Nani and Ferdinand scored the goals and overall I am happy with the performance. At times my team were a little static but this was mainly down to fitness and the fact it was the first league game of the season. The only bad thing however was that Rafael was injured and will miss the next games.
Premier League Fixture - 25.08.12 – West Ham A

Formation 4-2-3-1
David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Paul Scholes, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Ryan Giggs, Nani, Robin Van Persie
Subs Used – Anderson, Shinji Kagawa, Wayne Rooney

My first game at Old Trafford and what a good performance with a 4-0 victory. The goal scorers were Evra, Vidic, Nani and Van Persie. I was practically happy with Van Persie performance and the fact he is now off the mark for the season.
News – The Champions League group draw has been made and in group D there is United, Valencia, PSG and Red Bull Salzburg.
Injury News – Welbeck injured in training (foot) and will be out for two weeks.
Transfer News – Did not get rid of any staff but brought in a couple of extra hands to assist in training.
