Romario: The Politics and The History

Dawn of Romario's Career
Born in Rio de Janeiro, a hub for world class talented Brazilian soccer players, he went on to play at the local youth club of Vasco Da Gama, one of the big names in the Brazilian championship.
After 5 years spent at the different youth sections of Vasco, he was finally taken up to the first team in 1985 and was immediately thrown in the fires of the Brazilian championship. His 3 seasons with Vasco earned him experience but also overseas fame and by the time he was 22, he received an offer from one of the most powerful Dutch clubs, PSV Eindhoven.
PSV Eindhoven
PSV was undoubtedly Romario's club career apogee. His 5 seasons spent at the club earned him over 150 goals in roughly the same number of matches and as you can probably guess, that's an impressive goal/appearance ratio for any championship, especially for one as tough as the Dutch one. He managed to win the Dutch league with PSV in 1989, 1991 and 1992, before being bought by Spanish giants FC Barcelona.

FC Barcelona

Romario didn't lose his appetite for goal with his move to Barcelona. In fact, his two seasons there were almost as successful as the ones at PSV, scoring 34 league games for Barca in 46 games, becoming the league's top goalscorer. 1994 was definitely his best year, winning the title with Barcelona, the World Cup with the Brazil national team and being named World Player of the Year. Unfortunately, after a successful 1994-1995 season with Barcelona, his career entered a downfall.
Traveling the Brazil-Spain Route
Moving back to Brazilian side Flamengo in 1995 was not the best of moves for him. Although he did playwell here, one season later he found himself going back to Spain to playfor Valencia CF for half a season. Returning to Flamengo again, in the 1996-1997 season, only to find himself back at, you guessed, Valencia once more for the second part of the season. And guess where he went back the next year? Yep, Flamengo again.
This overseas table-tennis that he played between the Brazilian football and the Spanish football made him lose his efficiency and these 4 years would prove vital later on, as he would try to beat Pele's record of 1,000 official goals.

The next 3 years saw him settle down a bit, at Vasco da Gama, the club that introduced him to professional soccer. Romario found his pace again, scoring 41 times in 46 league matches but in 2002, he found himself playing for another Brazilian club, namely Fluminense, in the 2002-2003 season.
When everyone thought the Brazilian striker would settle down, Al Saad came in with a financial offer that no one could have refused, especially Romario who seemed keen to travel the World. His spell with the Quatari side would not be long and by the start of the 2003-2004 season, he was in Brazil again, playing for Fluminense again.
Unfortunately, a conflict with the head coach of the team saw him get fired in 2004, so he decided to go back to the team that launched him into football , Vasco Da Gama (it was his 3rd spell with the club).
By the time he started the 2005-2006 season for Vasco, no one really gave him a chance of staying at the club for more than one season and that's exactly what happened. 24 Romario goals helped Vasco win the title, but the striker moved on to Miami FC in a lucrative deal.

He did spend a full season in the United States, but only half of it for Miami FC...the second part of 2006 saw him joining Adelaide United, although he barely played for this team.

All in all, with a career that spanned over 23 seasons at 9 different teams (he did switch teams 16 times thought, although often returning to a team he played for in the past) and over 930 certain goals under his belt, a World Cup and a long list of trophies won on every continent he played on, he is undoubtedly one of soccer's greatest strikers of all times.

Achievements:
§ In 1988 Olympics he scored seven goals.
§ He Participate in 1990 and 1994 World cups
§ Second highest goalscorer in the history of the Brazilian team
§ Total he scored 71 goals in 85 international matches.
§ Elected to the Chamber of Deputies on the Brazilian Socialist Party ticket
§ 20 May 2007 scored his 1000th goal
§ Named FIFA World Player of the Year in 1994
§ 2008 Romario released a DVD with the best goals of his career totaling 900 goals in this disc.

The question is where and who will Romario manager? Holland? Spain? Brazil?

PSV Eindhoven:
Origin
The Eindhoven Football Club PSV was founded on August 31th 1913, at the end of a big Philips sports party marking the 100th anniversary of Dutch independence. The club started as a Philips factory team and competed for Dutch league football from 1915 onwards. In the space of ten years, PSV was promoted to the First Division and since 1926 they have always been a top-flight team. PSV clinched the Dutch title for the first time in 1929 and won their first Dutch cup in 1950. Five years later, shortly after professional football was introduced in The Netherlands, PSV was the first Dutch club to take part in the Coupe Européene, the predecessor of the UEFA Champions League. They won the Dutch title in professional football for the first time in 1963, after having won championships three times before. All together they clinched twenty-one Dutch titles in their 95-year history, while they lifted the Dutch cup eight times, the National Super Cup eight times. Moreover they won the UEFA Cup in 1978 and the European Cup in 1988.

The roaring seventies
PSV has been playing football in European competitions ever since 1974. Kees Rijvers was in charge of PSV as Coach and he guided the club to their first long-range hey-days. The former FC Twente coach fielded a successful team with many great players from the county of Brabant: Van der Kuylen, Van Kraaij, Stevens, Lubse, Brandts, the Van de Kerkhof twin brothers and also goalkeeper Van Beveren. They did not only win the Dutch title in 1978, but also won the UEFA Cup, at the expense of Bastia. The roaring seventies saw PSV claim yet more silverware: they clinched the Dutch title in 1975 and 1976, while they also won the Dutch cup in 1974 and 1976. Van der Kuylen had a major impact on those great achievements. Mister PSV scored a stunning 309 goals in 528 league matches and is The Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer. PSV claim another record: in the 1956-1957 season PSV striker Coen Dillen made history by scoring 43 league goals in one season, a goal-scoring record that has not been broken yet.
Six titles and one European Cup

After this period PSV started to build a new team that gained a great many sporting successes during the mid-eighties, with international top players such as Gullit, Gerets, Van Breukelen, Koeman, Vanenburg, Lerby and Kieft. PSV won an amazing six Dutch league title between 1986 and 1992 and three Dutch cup finals. In the 1987/1988 season, they even won the treble (Dutch title, Dutch cup and European Cup I). PSV completed deals with big stars, including Romario and Ronaldo, in that period, while, not much later, among other players, Cocu, Stam, Van Nistelrooy, Robben, Van Bommel and Park all joined PSV, where they developed into international top-class players. Many PSV players were called up to the teams of the national teams to compete in European tournaments and worldwide championships. PSV has taken part in the UEFA Champions League for twelve times running. The club already made sure of qualification for the prestigious tournament’s first edition, in 1992.
Success in the new millennium

The great successes that PSV enjoyed the past few seasons in the Dutch league, in the Dutch cup campaign and on the European stage are still fresh in our minds. PSV dominated the Dutch League in the new millennium, having won the Dutch titles seven times the past nine seasons, four of them in a row. With Guus Hiddink at the helm, PSV achieved great successes on the European stage, while some youth players made it into the First Team. PSV reached the UEFA Cup quarter finals in 2004, the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2005 and reached the tournament’s last sixteen in 2006. When Hiddink was in charge of PSV, the club won three titles in four seasons. He laid a solid foundation for the future, putting strong emphasis on teamwork and European mentality and his successor Ronald Koeman led the club to their twentieth Dutch title. PSV also reached the last eight in the Champions League and hold a great attraction to talented players from all over the world. The club definitely has maintained their multicultural, international image by attracting players the likes of Gomes, Alex, Farfán, Koné and currently Salcido, Maza, Méndez, Manco, Bréchet and Isaksson. With interim-headcoach Sef Vergoossen at the helm PSV crowned itself national champions for the fourth consecutive time and reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup tournament. Therefore the clubs’ ambitions maintain high.
However in recent years Ajax and Twente have taken the Eredivise and PSV need rebuilding and quickly step forward Football’s answer to Wladimir Klitschko: Romario.

The Philips Stadium is the PSV home base. The beautiful, up-to-date stadium is in the city centre of Eindhoven, still at exactly the same place where the PSV sports grounds were established when PSV (Philips Sport Vereniging) was founded in 1913. The Philips Stadium is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful football stadiums in Holland, because of the stands that are close to the pitch, the excellent lighting installation, the outstanding pitch and the fine facilities for the media and business relations. The stadium can accommodate 35,000 people on match days. All seats are covered and heated.
Layered frames
The Philips Stadium was renovated some years ago and the stands in the corners of the stadium were completed. The outside has been covered with layered frames that are covered during matches or other events, so that the crowds are not troubled by wind or rain. When no match is going on, the layered frames are opened, so that the wind transports air full of oxygen, which is beneficial for the growth of the grass.
Facilities for every target group
There is a Family Corner, reserved for children up to twelve years and their parents. Besides there is a special stand for youngsters up to sixteen years. Some special sections of the stands are the exclusive domain of people that create a good atmosphere. The stadium obviously also offers excellent facilities for disabled people and semi-invalid people. There are also excellent facilities in the Philips Stadium for representatives of trade and industry on match days. Sponsors receive their visitors in the Board Room, where there are thirteen Hospitality Lounges. The stadium has four Business Suites, 46 Business Rooms and 1186 Business Seats for business relations.
More than football
The Philips Stadium is not only a football stadium, but it is also multi-functional and all kinds of congress- and party facilities are available. There are two restaurants: Avant-Garde, the top class restaurant in the Philips Stadium (awarded with entry in the Michelin Guide) and De Verlenging, the bar serving food. Several companies have chosen the Philips Stadium as the perfect setting for their offices or shops. And of course fans can buy PSV-related articles from a wide range of nice souvenirs in the PSV FANstore.
Multifunctional
The stadium is not only a centre of activity on match days only; there are a great many other meetings throughout the year. Whether you would like to organize a meeting, a congress, a class or a seminar, a snappy product presentation or a party, the stadium is the most beautiful place in Eindhoven and a host of rooms provide a lovely view of the pitch.

Romario’s First Interview

J- Journalist
R- Romario

J- "Welcome back to Phillips Stadium, Romario."

R- “It is a pleasure to be back at this great club they made the player I was and now I want to re pay them and show them that I can bring back the glory years”

J-"Alright, Romario, let's begin the questions. First, What are your feelings on being the manager at Romario after you failed to become a politician ?"

R-"Being a politician was always my ambition in life as I believe the peope of Brazil deserve better there is much poverty there and that is why I am going to send half my wages from here to the Romario Poverty Fund (Fundo da Pobreza Romario ). However my love of football was and still is very strong and I miss Holland, PSV and of course the fans"

J – Do you think that you can build on last seasons results with the current squad?

R- The last few years have not been great but with the current squad plus a few additions with my budget of 2.8 Million I am sure we can challenge for the title and hopefully the cup and have a good run in Europe.

J - What kind of transfers do you expect to be making this year?

R –I am hoping to bring in a couple of experienced heads at the back and potentially look at the talent in the Juplier league to find some young exciting players. I will also be sending a scout to Brazil to find me some Brazilian flair and maybe the next Romario. I would also like to get Labyad back on loan after the old manager was ridiculous and sold him just for 1 Million Euros that kid has a very bright future and I ashamed the club let him go at that price.

I would also like to add that Benjamin van Leer, Maikel Verkoelen, Marcel Ritzmaier and Ruben Bentancourt no longer have a future at the club and are all available on free transfers.

J-What do you think are realistic targets for your team this season?

R - I think this season we should realistically be putting a good challenge for the continental places, and also winning the domestic cups. A good run in Europe would also be really helpful, as it could make us some much-needed money.

J - Alright, What do you make of the current backroom staff?

R– The staff at the club are fantastic however I want to create my own stamp on the club so I am bringing in one or two familiar faces. First I will keep Phillipe Cocu as my assistant and I would also like to announce that Patrick Kluivert will join as a coach, for now everyone else will stay.

J- Wow! There’s a lot of experience their good luck with the season and we will catch up with you soon
Romario’s First Trophy

Romario, took charge of his first competitive game against Ajax in the Dutch Super Cup in front of 50489 fans. The game started slowly with neither team creating many chances but after the break Adriano, the Brazilian Forward signed on a free transfer, was introduced and had he had a goal ruled offside in the 67th minute. After that it was all Ajax with Waterman keeping out De Jong and then Fischer in the closing minutes. The game went to Penalties and both teams scored their first four penalties then a succession of 5 missed penalties stopped when 21 year old wonder kid Georgino Wijnaldum scored and won PSV’s and Romario’s first trophy of the season.

Romario” This is a very special moment for me, winning a trophy in my first match is very nice and I’d like to thank all 30,000 fans that have traveled here to see this marvelous win.” He carried on saying “ However this wont mean much if we do not do well this season this is hopefully the first of many trophies in my reign”

Romario” The club has had many bids for our star players and they have all been rejected and will continually to be as this is my team and no one wants to leave or will leave at this current time”

Romario on Wilfred Bony

Romario “The boy is very special he is a superb talent and if I had the funds I would certainly sign him he I sthe bext Drogba he is all there , he remind sme of my self started at this local team and earned a move to Holland the world is his oyster and maybe he is the African Romario, his hat trick yesterday was the first against PSV since Nicky Machlas’s impressive season in 1997-98—a fan favourite in Gelderland, Vitas fans may have gently made themselves aware that all good things come to an end, and that Bony’s magical year is likely to carry him to pastures new. While the Dutch league carries a reputation for being a 'soft touch’, I have little doubt that Bony’s electrifying ability would translate to some of Europe’s tougher divisions. His performances this season have led to his name being uttered in some of the sport’s most exalted corridors, and I would certainly consider him among Africa’s finest performers at this time.”
Lots of updates very quickly! The content is absolutely great Gladbach and you write very well! Try and make sure every post has a picture at least. An update just full of text isn't very exciting to read. I think it's a great idea for a story mate just a little bit of work needed on the update style :P check out some of the top commented stories and most viewed stories on here to get an idea of the kind of thing to do :)

Good writing mate, nice read. However, I recommend you slow down with your updates, some people might not want to read that much at one time.

Also, Bony is a tank, I have watched loads of videos of him, he's mint, I hope the rumors are true that he is going to Newcastle. :)

August: Romario's First Trophy and a Promising Start

Romario started his career at PSV with a friendly match against Lienden away and came away from the amateur club with a 5-0 domination game especially thanks to a double from new signing and Brazil's forgotten man Adriano.

The game went to Penalties and both teams scored their first four penalties then a succession of 5 missed penalties stopped when 21 year old wonder kid Georgino Wijnaldum scored and won PSV’s and Romario’s first trophy of the season.

His first league game was against NAC Breda where his PSV team won 3-0 thanks to goals from Toivonen and Wijnaldum. His first set back game day slater after a Wilfred Bony hat trick dominated PSV leaving Romario with his first loss of 3-1. In the back end of the month two wins against Utrecht and NEC took PSV to second one point behind Willem II.

Romario's Men comfortably booked their places in the group stage by beating Eskisehirspor 4-0 on aggregate thanks to a double from Jeremain lens and a penalty from Toivonen while in the return leg Wijnaldum scored the only goal and earned himself the Player of the month.

Romario"With a resemblance to Clarence Seeddorf this young 21 year old has a lot to make it in the game and could be the best player PSV have ever produced", a bold statement by Romario but it may be true
