The Baggies: A Brand New Adventure

For this story, I will be taking over as boss of the West Midlands club West Bromwich Albion. Well known for their position in the Barclays Premier League, West Bromwich Albion have established themselves as strong team in a very strong league. Hopefully you will enjoy this version of their club.

Tuesday 1st May 2012 - Roy Hodgson quits post at West Brom

Today Roy Hodgson, former Liverpool and Fulham boss, has left his post at West Midlands club West Brom, after agreeing a deal with the English FA to become the new manager of England. It comes towards the end of the English season, with West Brom only having to play two more matches this season. Hodgson will finish the season with the Baggies, before heading to the England camp and preparing for Euro 2012.

There is much speculation over who will take over as the new boss, with former West Ham and Charlton boss Alan Curbishley as one of the leaders to take over. Ex-Rangers boss Walter Smith may also be tempted to join West Brom, after turning down an offer earlier this year to take over now-relegated Wolves, West Brom's rivals. Some are even suggesting that ex-Inter boss Rafael Benitez would be interested, although, with the Liverpool job open, Benitez may look towards more familiar pastures.

However, we are yet to see where the Baggies could choose their new manager from, and they will surely be looking to push for a top-half place next season, or even a Europa League spot. In the meanwhile, West Brom will finish their season and search afterwards.

West Brom: A New Face

Today, West Bromwich Albion have announced their new manager, with unknown 25 year-old Will Hammond taking over as their new boss. The club have told us that they are 'optimistic for the future, with such a young, talented football manager coming in. We fully back our decision to name an inexperienced manager, and although we realise it is a risk, it is one we are definitely willing to take. Will has such fantastic football knowledge, and we wish him all the best for the future.'

Will Hammond, is an inexperienced young manager, who while at Eton College, helped coach the first XI instead of playing, as he thought it was a much more enjoyable experience. 'The Kid' as he is nicknamed by friends, grew up playing Football Manager and Championship Manager. His friends say that he used to spend hours working on a 'perfect tactic' or choosing from the best of his youth intakes. He went to Loughborough University, and became a familiar face at their sports development centre, where many of Great Britain's top sports stars train. Since graduating, Hammond has managed at his local club, Hammersmith and Fulham, and led them to a successful season where they just missed out on promotion.

The West Brom board and directors are clearly willing to take a massive gamble on this unknown to football, although this could be seen as the perfect step for 'The Kid'. At 25 years-old, the majority of the West Brom squad is older than him, and he may struggle to enforce authority. Either way, this can be seen as a bold move from West Brom. Hammond's first press conference will be held tomorrow morning.

Hammond's first press conference

Club press officer: Good morning ladies and gentleman. Mr Hammond will be with you in just a moment…Here he is now.

I walked in and sat down. This was pretty overwhelming. I had always kept my head on FM, and had seen tons of interviews on Sky Sports News. But now they were actually asking me.

Club press officer: Okay then, let's begin!

Hi, yes. Doug Ray from Kick! Magazine. How happy are you to be the new manager of West Brom today, and how happy are you with your first professional job?

Firstly, good morning ladies and gentleman, and thank you for coming. I honestly can't tell you how happy I am that the board here have decided to give me the opportunity to manage this fantastic club, over the likes of Champions League winning managers, and proven Premier League managers. It really is brilliant to be given the chance in professional football as well, as my career, with all due respect to my beloved Hammersmith and Fulham, was going nowhere really. But I can't believe I was given a chnce in the Premier League.

Hi, Russell Jarvis from The Times. How would you say you approach the game? What sort of football can we expect to see at the Hawthorns this season?

I am looking to play a balanced style of football, and I have three primary tactics that I will be using this season. I have a 4-4-2 which is more my balanced formation. I have planned a 4-2-3-1 which utilises the fantastic wingers here at the club, as well as a target man in Romelu Lukaku. My last formation is a deep 4-3-3, with 3 strikers, although this is very much my counter tactic which will be used in only the toughest games.

Last question please.

Me? Hello, I'm Austin Lee from The Sunday Mirror. Are you going to be looking to sign many players this summer? Where are you going to strengthen the team?

I am already trying to look for some more quality at the back, as although we have lots of depth, we lack that real quality to make a last-ditch challenge, or get forward to score a game-winning header. I am also trying to move on some of the older players from our squad. I can reveal that I have had chats with Boaz Myhill, Peter Odemwingie, Marc-Antoine Fortuné and Zoltan Gera and have told them that they may not be playing football here this season. All of them have accepted this, and are helping me in looking for a new club for them.

Thank you to everyone who has come today.

My first real press conference over. And I had done it just like on the games. And I remember managing West Brom once.
Good writing so far mate. Nice to see a mix of graphics and writing in good balance.
