Nacional 2-4 Schalke 04

2-4 Schalke
Manager's Notes: It was a credible performance against a team of Schalke's calibre. We passed it around a bit and looked good on our feet. I decided to turn the tactic to more of a counter-attacking one because I knew Schalke would be better than us and it worked! We went two down, the first one Afellay fouling in the buildup, but we scored a fantastic goal before HT. An error from da Costa meant Draxler could run half the pitch to score though. But Mateus pulled one back late on and I actually thought we could get a draw. But it wasn't to be as Raffael put the final nail in the coffin which we didn't deserve. All in all, a good performance - Bruno.

Santana 1-3 Nacional

3-1 Santana
I took a break from this match and left it to my assistant. I was a bit anxious at first but I checked my emails and why was there ever reason to doubt Mr. Basquilio Marques? We were 3-0 up by half time and getting Barcelos to play as an inside forward is working! A great result, Camacha next!

Camacha 1-4 Nacional

4-1 Camacha
A great performance, two late goals by Keita from my master corner plan in the last three minutes worked. A 4-1 is what we deserved. Mateuus was again impressive but the only negative is that Zanetti will be out for 3 months at a specialist, which the press told me would happen, and I brushed it aside but we have suitable backup. A great pre-season, bring on the actual season. We have SC Beira-Mar on the first day!

Youth Prospects

I sat down at the head of the table for the meeting, the first one with my staff. I asked their opinions on corner takers, captains, free kick takers, penalty takers and formations. But I'd got those sorted out already.

But I wanted to know one more thing. "Who are the two biggest prospects in the youth team?" I posed the question. Basquilio Marques filed through his notes and handed me a sheet of paper. "This is one of the two, I can file a report on the other in the near future," he answered.

I looked at the sheet and saw the name, stats and positions. His name was Joaquim Sa and he was an attacking midfielder, I thought he had a lot of potential. "This guy is great, I want you to include him in the first team fro pre-season, backup for Barcelos," I told my staff.

Marques nodded and wrote a note down on his pad. "Is that all boss?" he asked. I nodded and looked through Sa's profile, he was the real deal!

0-2
45' Mateus
47' Candeias
49' Mateus

A great win in my first game in charge! I am so glad for the team. We didn't control as much as I would have liked but when we were on top we made it count! Mateus' shot was our only real chance of the half and he is one of our best players so I am so glad he was able to put that away! Candeias' goal was class, cutting in from the right hand side and scoring a lovely goal! They dominated the later stages of the game but all credit to the boys with a good win. Areas to improve are creating opportunities and passing it around. But hopefully this win gives us some momentum and an early edge over our rivals! -Bruno

Alright Pre Season and the result to match v Beira Mar. How long is Mateus out for?
KingPadster Preseason was pretty good because I got the team playing the way I wanted (passing around, control). The match against Beira Mar was alright though, we didn't grt enough passes in. Mateus is out for 3-4 months which is a big loss. TIf you check tomorrow you will see that I got a brilliant result in Round 2! :D

3-4 months! Wow gutted. I'll be awaiting the next update
KingPadster yeah I know. Him and Zanetti are both out for 3 months which is a pain.

1-0
N. Otamendi 82'

What a win! A fantastic result against the best team in Portugal for the last 3-4 years! I switched the tactic instruction from Control to Counter and it worked. We stood of them and they couldn't break us down. Yes, James Rodriguez had a goal disallowed but it was clearly offside. It was a heroic performance from the boys, and they defended and defended and defended and then they got the chance with 9 minutes on the clock and we hit a low corner (it was a terrible corner) into the near post and it was scrambled in, the final touch coming off Otamendi. We held on solemnly and fought to the end, a courageous performance all out!

Manager of the Month

After the Porto game I could not contain my excitement. It was a great win, a courageous performance and we danced around like monkeys in the changing room for hours on end. It was a great time to be at Nacional!
I got back in my office later than usual. I was still swelling with pride. I check the tables on the the internet, Nacional were on top! Even if it was only after two games, we had carried our pre-season form into the Liga Zon Sagres.

Basquilio came in with a grin on his face to. "Boss," he started. "Yes," I replied. "Congratulations, you won the Portuguese August Manager of the Month!" he exclaimed. I swelled with pride and leaped up out of my desk and shook his hand.

"Thanks Basquilio, some of the credit must go to you," I told. "No no no, it was all you Mr Patacas," he said shyly. Basquilio was one of the most humble men I knew. We talked a bit and then got back to work, on match preparation.

I then realised that it was going to be tough to keep our top spot because the week after playing Porto, arguably the best team in Portugal, we were hosting SL Benfica, arguably the second best team in Portugal.

"Oh great," I moaned. "Let's get these boys ready," I said to Basquilio.

2-2

Barcelos 4'
Rondon 53'

The derby of Madeira, the contest between the only two teams in the Liga ZON Sagres based on the island of Madeira, Nacional da Madeira and CS Maritimo, took place today, and we got off to a flyer! Barcelos volleyed home after 4 minutes to put us ahead. Being a player at Nacional for nine years, I was no stranger to this derby. Candeias struck the post on 44 minutes, and how I wish that went in. Mario Rondon duly converted a wonderful strike to put us two to the good, but on 68 minutes Odiah went to sleep and let Sami through who cut it back for Olberdam to volley home. They were back in it. Maritimo got a free kick on 83 minutes, it was scrambled away as far as the edge of the box before it was knocked back to Pele who slid it home. I was enraged, I had a go at my players, especially my defenders! Especially Chidi Odiah. I think his name should actually be Chidi O-dear. I am so angry with that draw, we have dropped points in three games in a row now, which is something I need to address immediately. -Bruno
