Beno Zeeb - 96 Reasons Why

Die Roten have announced that a new man has been appointed as their manager for the 2012-13 season. Beno Zeeb the ex German footballer has taken over the hot-seat left by Mirko Slomka the man who led Hannover to a fourth place finish in his first year at the club. Zeeb's background compared to his predecessor leaves much to be desired as the four year retired footballer has not managed a club before, only led in a squad. His real experience comes from being a captain in prestigious teams like Schalke and Stuttgart but an injury hindered him from continuing.

It is thought that Chairman Martin Kind is looking to push the club to the next level. He stated earlier that "This club needs to go forward. I believe Beno can produce that." Kind might be all for the new manager but the fans are left skeptical due to the fact of Zeeb's inexperience as a manager. Time will tell whether this was the right move but for now the fans will have to make do. It is understood that a press conference will be at hand tomorrow as Zeeb has been asked to answer a few questions.

So who am I?

I am Beno Zeeb from a child I loved football and I played for school teams and such as much as I could. I was scouted at the ripe age of 14 and joined Stuttgart and enjoyed a successful career there for ten years. At the age of 24 when I found myself established in the sport as a leader in the midfield at heart. I joined Schalke, where I played for six years. I was fairly strong player not getting many injuries but in my final season I suffered an ACL injury and the medical staff said I probably wouldn't play the same ever again. That is when I decided to hang up my boots. Four years later here I am becoming the manager of Hannover 96. Age 34. Born 18th April 1978

Whats unique about this story: Well in this one I take Beno's views into mind so when offers come in for me to manage a new team I will consider them and if its a hefty contract or a place I like that could push me to leave the current team. So essentially its more about a managers career.

The First Day

The first day of me in charge of Die Roten I had a gander through the squad deciding on what to do with it. This was made especially hard by the minuscule transfer budget (1.6m and 675K). Though going through the team I noticed that the squads depth was bountiful. There was even too many players in certain positions. That is where I would get the money to buy players.

Me too! Diouf is injured right now. I can't wait to get him back. Andre Hoffmann has the best potential out of the team. Really excited for him to come up and prove himself.

After thrashing their lower team just yesterday 3-1, Beno Zeeb has come out and told striking pair they can both leave. Opting to only play one strike in the new formation Beno has stated that it would seem silly to keep four plus strikers at the team, not to mention "unfair" stated Duwel, Zeeb's assistant manager. Along with the strikers, eight other players on the team have been listed after being told they won't get anytime to play at Die Roten. Mario Eggimann and captain Steven Cherundolo (Pinto takes the job of being captain) are amongst those eight.

In other Hannover news Zeeb stated that he is looking for more options on the wings and is also hoping to bring in a defender and a creative midfielder. Edwin Boekamp has joined as a scout to find these players for the revolutionary changers at the 96.

Today Hannover's new manager Zeeb has announced the departure of four players and the arrival of two. The Norwegian international star Mohammed Abdellaoue has moved onto Arsenal for a reported 12m Euros. Abdellaoue missed the cut for strikers this season, which surprises many when he was one of Hannover's top goal scorers last year. A statement from the clubs chairman Marting Kind managed to clear the air for the fans who were left shocked to see the departure official. Kind had this to say "I fully believe in Zeeb. We sat down after the first game in pre-season and we talked ambitions. He stated although Abdellaoue is a great player, he works primarily as a poacher, and with the formation only utilizing one striker we need more deep lying forwards. Players who can hold up play."

The other departures out of the club come as veteran Mario Eggimann goes to Mainz for 825K, Christian Schulz heads to Fiorentina for 3m and Daniel Bauer has been given a free transfer. There is also a rumor around that a player or two is heading out on loan sometime soon.


Club Brugge midfielder Vadis Ojdidja and Mainz winger Marcel Risse join Hannover for the combined fee of 9m Euros it is expected they will feature in the game against Thun on Wednesday the 11th.
