Real Madrid star player Cristiano Ronaldo has chosen to invest a slice of his substantial of his earnings in an unusual purchase – Portuguese side Ribeira Brava.

The club are far from good – in fact, as it stands they sit at the very bottom of the third tier of Portuguese football with no accolades to their names.

But that has not deterred Cristiano who views it as an opportunity to rebuild the club from scratch, giving the team everything from a new name to new colours. Yes - you heard that correctly. Cristiano will be reshaping the club literally from top to bottom. A new team name, kit are hopefully the beginning of a new club in Ronaldo's eyes.

Ribeira Brava, a club in Ronaldo's home town of Madeira, hold a special place in his heart and he is said to be looking to invest heavily in an attempt to get the club from its low standings to the top of the Portuguese leagues and into the UEFA Champions League.

A new club is born

Sky Sports are proud to present a detailed interview with new owner of Ribeira Brava. This is what Cristiano Ronaldo had to say about his new club:

SSN: Hi Ronaldo

CR7: Hi Guys

SSN: I would like to start off by asking you on why you invested in this small club

CR7: As you have said it is somewhat of an investment and with most investments there is something to be gained. In this case there is both a physical gain in terms of the wealth that I acquire when the clubs becomes a Champions League regular and also mental gain because Madeira is the place where I grew up and it means a lot to me to give back to the community here. Obviously I still have a playing career ahead of me for the foreseeable future but right now the season is over and I am looking to build a platform for this club to work with. When the pre season starts then I will leave the club in capable hands :D

SSN: You say you want your club to be Champions League regulars…how do you plan on achieving that. Can you tell us about who these "capable hands" belong to.

CR7: I have money and a clear vision and direction. I think in football money can lead to success, especially at the club where there is virtually no money. If you look at the lower end teams in all leagues, one thing is associated and that is a lack of funding.

SSN: Can you tell us more about who you intend to leave the club with while you are gone

CR7: A new manager

SSN: Who exactly?



CR7: No comment… next question please

SSN: You spoke earlier of a vision for the club… can you tell us what that is?

CR7: Well in the future it is, as I said, to become Champions League regulars. For now I am looking to build up the club with a logo ect. I want the club to have all of those things so that it has a meaning behind it and the players can strive to wear the badge.

SSN: Any updates on what the team name or logo is?

CR7: Yes. I can officially tell you that the club will be renamed to Silverback F.C. For me the most formidable animal is the silverback gorilla. I want the team to have the aggression, flair and arrogance about them and that is why I chose the team name. In terms of the logo, stadium name and colours ect, I will be updating you on that in due time. Thanks
