February: Triumph

In a rather quiet month for the rest of the country, Newcastle were making all the noise. Gary Lineker's men needed momentum to take into their Capital One Cup Final, and that is exactly what they got when a youthful second-string team beat a strong Manchester City team 3-0. Next up was the big one, a trip to Wembley to face the team that they had lost 2-0 to in the league, Swansea.
Swansea are a team to be admired, with their free-flowing blend doing the business as they found themselves in their second consecutive Capital One Cup Final. Against Newcastle, however, they were no match - and Newcastle took home the trophy with a demanding 3-1 win, which marked Gary Lineker's first trophy in management.
In other news, David Platt has left Newcastle as coach to become the new manager of Burnley - a move Lineker hasn't taken too kindly to, as he privately begged him to stay with the now Europa League team.
