Injuries

July 14: Ryan Miller suffered a hernia and will be out 6-7 weeks. He's been played on the Disabled List.
July 21: Kyle Bekker suffered a sprained wrist and will be out 2 weeks.

Standings

Our chances of getting a CONCACAF Champions League qualification out of the US Open are squashed, but we are still in play for the Supporters' Shield, which means we are well in position for a bye into the Western Conference Semifinal.
Going really well from what I can tell, much better than Portland in real life ;)
Keep it up! :D

August 2012

Portland Timbers 1 - 1 FC Dallas

Toronto FC 2 - 2 Portland Timbers

New York Red Bulls 0 - 1 Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers 0 - 2 Vancouver Whitecaps

Portland Timbers 2 - 0 Colorado Rapids

This match was the debut of a new tactic, designed for when we are favored but the opponents are playing 5 in the midfield. It's designed to match up the midfield and have the numbers advantage up front. The only problem is that it takes up all of my midfielders, so I'll be looking for an extra DM and another center mid on waivers.

Transfers

August 25: Ryan Miller traded to Philadelphia for their 1st round Superdraft pick in 2014.

Standings

We're 2nd in the West only on goal differential, but Chivas USA has two games in hand on us so we must be careful. Our defense has been solid but it's been hard to coax goals out of the attack.

Colorado Rapids 2 - 1 Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers 2 - 2 Seattle Sounders

San Jose Earthquakes 2 - 2 Portland Timbers

Real Salt Lake 1 - 0 Portland Timbers

Portland Timbers 2 - 1 DC United

With the win against DC United, Portland has secured a playoff berth!

Transfers

September 1: Portland Timbers have won Pat Phelan on waivers from Chivas USA. Diego Valeri is back on the active roster.
September 4: Portland has loaned Dylan Tucker-Gangnes to San Antonio Scorpions for the rest of the season.
September 15: Portland has traded their 1st round Superdraft pick and their 2nd round Superdraft pick from Philadelphia to Seattle for Brad Evans.
September 30: Bright Dike's loan finishes, he is immediately waived.

Injuries

September 3: Carlos Rodriguez suffered a back strain in training and will miss 5-6 weeks. He has been placed on the disabled list.
September 10: Sebastian Rincon suffered a broken foot while on international duty for Colombia U20s and will miss 3 months. He has been placed on injured reserve.

Standings

Although our terrible month shot dead our Supporters' Shield chances, we can clinch a bye to the semifinal with only 3 points, since there's only 3 matches left.
A solid league position, keep it end for the last stretch!

I haven't ever put a solid end-of-season stretch in MLS, even in my New England save and we won 2 Supporters' Shields, we cut it close at the end of the season. I don't know why.

Wheelin' and Dealin'

December 6, 2012: Immediately after the domestic transfer window opened, the Portland Timbers have shipped some players out. The highest profile deal is the one sending legendary CONCACAF goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts from Portland to Montreal in exchange for the use of one of their international slots for 5 years and $300,000 in allocation money. Mikael Silvestre was also traded to Montreal for the use of an international slot for 5 years and $300,000 in allocation money. In a lesser profile deal, Pat Phelan was traded to the Colorado Rapids for their first round Supplemental Draft pick.

Nathan Limior explained that Ricketts and Silvestre were traded because of high salaries and they weren't getting any younger. Portland fans are having a mixed reaction to the trades, realizing they weren't the future, but somewhat miffed that their stars were traded.

UPDATED: Michael Nanchoff has been traded to Montreal Impact for their 2nd round pick in the Superdraft, and Ryan Johnson has also been traded to Montreal for their 1st round Superdraft pick and DC United's 2nd round pick in 2015. (Montreal Impact finished last so they pick first in the Superdraft.)

Edson to Portland

Portland manager Nathan Limior was delighted to get a bargain as they got central defender Edson Henrique da Silva, his footballing name simply "Edson", from Brazilian club Atletico Golaniense for a measly sum of $45,000. His contract will be massive though, at $350,000 a year for 4 years. His contract is the maximum for a non-Designated Player.

Nathan Limior said, when asked about him "We'll need quality defending when we play in the CONCACAF Champions League, and we can always use an extra man in rotation for MLS. Edson will be a great player for us, it'll be hard for teams to score against us."
Great signing! Keep it up :)

Good progress so far, I think that Edson guy will turn out pretty good for you too.
