Two join Lille
Jason Hunt has not wasted any time in improving his strike force at Lyon, as he has gone out an bought two impressive new strikers. The first is Javier Saviola, who signed for free following a frustrating year at Benfica, where he scored just 4 goals in 18 games . Despite struggling last year, Saviola, 30 years old, is a great finisher of the ball and a flair dribbler. Saviola has had an illustrious career, spending time at both Real Madrid at Barcelona. In fact, his best season was at Barcelona, where he scored 17 goals in 36 games. Javier told L'Equipe today that he was "glad to join such a great club and he hoped to finish his career in the great city of Lille." He went on to say that "working under such a talented young manager was a privilege and I believe that Lille can secure champions league football for next year". Saviola will earn 38.5 thousand pounds a week during his time at Lille.
The second signing that Mr. Hunt made was for Jelle Vossen. Jelle, Belgian, signed from Genk for a total of 4.1 million pounds. The 23 year old has already been capped 10 times for Belgium, and he looks to be the starting striker for Lille. Vossen had a good season last year at Genk, scoring 13 goals in 27 games. Vossen is a great finisher of the ball, and he looks to make use of that at his new club. Jason Hunt spoke highly of his new youngster, telling reporters that " Vossen is a quality player capable of bringing in 15 goals or more. He'll be the perfect poacher. He's not the greatest player yet, but he certainly has room to improve, while Saviola is on the decline. That makes him first choice striker for this year". Vossen will be earning 19 thousand pounds a week during his time at Lille.
