Leeds United: A Background

Founded in 1919 from the previously dissolved Leeds City, Leeds United are an English club playing in the npower Championship. They play their home matches at Elland Road and own top training facilities in Thorp Arch. The clubs nickname is The Peacocks or United and retains fierce rivalries with Manchester United (Historical), Galatasaray SK (Historical) and Chelsea (Historical). Other rivalries are with Millwall, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City and Cardiff.

The club enjoyed their best spell of success during the 1970's. Although having not won anything in the last 20 years, they won promotion from League 1 in 2010. Leeds finished runner-up in the European Cup (Now Champions League) although the fans protest, saying they were robbed and the referee of that match was fined for match fixing but that title still goes to Bayern Munich, Leeds won the Premier League 3 times, 1969, 1974 and 1992 and are 5 time runners-up, they finished runners-up of the Cup Winners Cup in 1973 and won the UEFA Cup (Now Europa League) in 1968 and 1971 and finished runners-up once. Most of this success was under Don Revie (1961-74) until he was forced to leave to a unsuccessful England reign from 1974 to 1977.

Who am I?

For this story I am using current Leeds United manager Brian McDermott. McDermott took charge of Leeds after a frustrating Neil Warnock reign. Following Warnock's habit of signing old journeymen, McDermott has already changed lots of things, signing youth and potential players such as Matt Smith and Luke Murphy (I won't be using these players) which many Leeds fans are very happy about.

Good luck Leeds have a great budget so bring in the youth.
Good luck with the story and upcoming season.
wellsy and James: Cheers :)
Always a mistake to get rid of him but good luck to him next season (except when he plays us of course. Good luck with this!!!

Squad Report

Paddy Kenny is a superb keeper for the league and is competent backup in the Premier League also. He is on £15,000 a week at 34 but he is key to our team. Jamie Ashdown is decent back up but he isn't anything more than that, he is on cheap wages so I hope to offload him soon (5K wages)

Center Back: Jason Pearce is a real leader in our defence and although he is on a high wage (15k) I hope he will reward me with good performances. Tom Lees is a great young center-back at a extremely low 4.5k wages, which is a bargain and I will keep him if we get to the Premier League as that is what his potential is set at.

Right Back: Sam Byram is an amazing young talent and is already a leading star for most Championship sides with an even better potential, even at 19 years old he is one of the best, if not, the best right back in the league. Peltier is an average right back and I hope to offload him in January.

Left Back: Stephen Warnock is a great left back for this level although he is ageing and won't be a great asset if we win promotion. Aidan White is a great left back who will be filling in regularly for Warnock, his pace is a great attribute and isn't on this highest wages and he develops quickly according to many sites.

Defensive Midfield: Rodolph Austin is rated a good player for Premier League sides so I won't be offloading him anytime soon unless a big offer comes in . I rate him as the star of our team. Michael Brown is a decent back up for Austin but I will be looking to offload him as he is too old.

Center Midfield: Paul Green is a hard working CM and there aren't too many better than him in the league. David Norris is on a huge wage of 15k and I can't get rid of him as he has only just joined so I will try to offload him ASAP.

Left Midfield: I am trying to sign a left winger as we don't have many that are good enough.

Right Midfield: El-Hadji Diouf is the only good right winger in our squad and I am trying to sign back up for him.

Steve Morison's play in FM is much better than in real life, he is a great striker with the ball at his feet and with his head, he will be a big player this season. Ross McCormack is a key part to our attack and I will do anything to keep him. Luke Varney will be back up to Morison and McCormack this season but I feel he can do a job this season.
GLORY GLORY LEEDS UNITED!!! Make me proud :)
Byram is quality, keep hold of him :D Good update pal.

Lucas: Will sell him when the time is right, cheers :)

McDermott: Looking Good

New Leeds boss Brian McDermott has declared his new side have pleased him as they head into their first competitive game against Rochdale in the Capital One Cup 1st round. "We won 5 out of 7 pre-season matches and those taht we lost, against Genoa and Barcelona are top teams, world class teams. I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous and I sound mad, but I want Leeds to be one of those world class sides, we need to learn from them."

The new Leeds boss started his reign in July and has earned wins against Leyton Orient (4-1), Oldham Athletic (1-0), Guiseley (3-0), Harrogate Town (2-0), SC Bastia (1-0) and suffered defeats to Genoa CFC (3-1) and Barcelona (2-1).
if you havnt got any decent wingers try changing your formation and don't use wingers

McDermott: Six new signings

Great news for Leeds United fans as their new boss Brian McDermott announced 6 new signings with a contract agreed with a player to join in January. "I believe this side were crying out for wingers and a few improvements in other areas on the pitch and now I have the access to make us real contenders for promotion this season" said Brian McDermott.

"I and the board have full confidence in Mr. McDermott and his decisions within the club and I believe today we have made great changes to the side as we head into the next season" said Whites chairman David Haigh.

We needed flair, not just any flair, European flair. He has had experience in the top leagues before at Sevilla so I feel Arteaga is a perfect signing.

With all respect to Jamie Ashdown, I feel he is a great keeper but I don't think he will give Paddy Kenny competition for a starting place, fon Williams is a great keeper who, in my opinion is at the same level as Paddy.

A great signing and he is a winger which is what we needed and I feel he will be a major part in our promotion push and taking the club to the next level.

For a free transfer this is one of the bargains of the season. He has had years of experience in the Serie A and played for one of the best clubs there, Roma. He will challenge for the right wing and left wing spot with Diouf and Alonso.

Lee Peltier, with all due respect, will not be featuring very much this season with Sam Byram in my opinion being a better option and I felt he needs a challenge for his spot and Manuel is perfect for that role.

We brought in one of the best holding midfielders in the league in Spain. With Michael Brown leaving, someone needed to challenge Rodolph Austin for his spot and Borja is the same level, if not better.

Now with the outgoings:

Brown was getting older and wasn't going to be effective for a reasonable promotion push which is the reason I signed Borja.

Paul's future wasn't going to be here with Byram and Peltier already there and now with Pablo coming in he definitely didn't have a place here, we wish him the best at Rangers.

This was an extremely tough decision with us not getting a striker but with us having 4 strikers here already and Habibou is on lower wages and in my opinion he is better.

Drury was put on the transfer list but Coventry came in with a loan offer and it is his chance to get his value up and attract interest from better clubs, it's a win-win situation.

Sanchez is a very good young player and I hope he can improve at Gateshead.

IN: £1.3M

OUT: 675K
