Guys, quit the pillow fighting. There is really no need for this.
Real Oviedo - Back From The Dead
Join me as I attempt to take Spanish third division club Real Oviedo to La Liga and beyond, with many inevitable failures along the way!

And so we return to the games, to the excitement, the nervousness and the frustration of matchdays. But mostly, the frustration!
We had some tough fixtures ahead of us, and I could only hope that fate would carry us through.
Another shaky month in all honesty. We began with a trip to overachievers Marino (not to be confused with that other club in this league, C.D. Marino). I expected a tough game, and got exactly that, but for once I left the ground happy with a draw. Espina and Hernandez had Marino two up inside 25 minutes. Diego Cervero pulled one back for us, but on the stroke of half time Marino got their third, courtesy of Juanma. However, we rallied in the second half; Cervero adding his second of the game from the penalty spot on 78 minutes, but I surely thought it was too late. However, I was proved wrong, as Javi Casares struck late to snatch a draw for us. Perhaps undeserved, but I couldn’t fault the boys’ efforts.
Next, we travelled to Guijelo, the team we hammered on the opening day of the season. It was a slightly tighter affair this time, with just one goal separating the two sides, but I was happy enough to get a win. Javi Cantero and Diego Cervero scored for us, sandwiched between a Nanizayamo equaliser for them. 3 points in the bag!
Next, we returned home to play title contenders Salamanca, who we had amazingly beaten away earlier in the season. However, on this occasion it was not to be, as Salamanca reaped their revenge on us. Two goals in as many minutes from Igor put them in control. Pepe Diaz replied for us almost instantaneously, but the scores would remain the same until the 77th minute, when Rodriguez sealed it for Salamanca. Again, we responded quickly through a Ladero own goal, but I knew the game was over. Another nice comeback was not on the cards on this occasion, but I wasn’t too concerned by this one.
Our final game of the month was away to Getafe B, who had already shocked us at home at the beginning of the season. I thought another poor result was on the cards when Qasmi put them in front early on, but we held strong in the second half and nabbed an equaliser through Hector Simon. The scoreline stayed the same, and we had succumbed to yet another draw.
Perhaps the most confusing month of my short career so far. It began regularly enough with a routine 1-0 win over lowly Sporting B. Of course I would have liked to have put a few more goals past them, but I’ll certainly take a one goal win, our solitary goal coming courtesy of Galder Cerrajeria’s second half strike.
The next result was disappointing, yet expected, as we found ourselves up against runaway league leaders Murcia. Two goals inside 20 minutes from Carnicer and Martinez looked to have sunk us, until Fode Mansare fired in a free kick on 35 minutes. However, any glimmering hopes of a comeback faded when Casto scored a freak own goal to make the score 3-1. Not too bad in all honesty, but still disappointing nonetheless.
Next came the chaos. Dubbed an easy win, our game at home to Fuenlabrada proved to be everything but. Aleman scored early on from a corner, and that was it for the first half. I was still quietly confident we could get something out of this game, however, then disaster struck. First an error by Casto gifted Pachon a goal, but just five minutes later Ramos had added a brace. I was simply shellshocked. We had lost an easy home game by four goals and dropped out of the playoffs. I was horrified.
As if to rub salt in the wound, over the next week I would accumulate 5 first team squad injuries, with Casto, Lucien Owona, Sene, Xavi More and Nahuel Menendez all picking up major injuries, each out for at least a month, meaning due to the league’s idiotic registration system (where a maximum of 22 players can be registered), couldn’t fill a bench, instead relying on youth players and praying I wouldn’t need them. I couldn’t believe my luck, I refused to attend any press conferences and even thought about resigning.
By the time we travelled to Ourense for our next clash, I had lost all hope. I feared defeat, in fact I feared more of a cricket score, with many backups out and given our awful form. Then, to my sheer disbelief, we won. Not just by the odd goal either; 6 goals to 1. I couldn’t believe it, I was cursing my wicked luck. Simon scored just before half time to put us ahead, before Pepe Diaz scored a brace, Sene (This was the match he picked up his injury) added a rare goal and even Fode Mansare got on the scoresheet, the rout finally concluding in a second for Simon. Martinez scored a late consolation for the home side. It was incredible, we had gone from the lowest of the low to dream land. However, we were not to get carried away, we still had much work to do to get back into the play-offs, and hopefully stay there this time.
After the most up and down month ever, we sit just outside the play-off places. Hopefully a good run of form can be coupled with a slump from Zamora and we can sneak in ahead of them.

January Player Of The Month: Diego Cervero

Although there were no real standouts in what was a relatively poor month for us, we can have Diego Cervero to thank for providing us with crucial goals. The striker, somewhat of a legend at Oviedo, was the clear winner of the January player of the month, no doubt pleasing a certain P-Kiddy!Month Of February

February Player Of The Month: Fode Mansare

Perhaps no one deserved player of the month after such a topsy-turvy month, but if I had to give it to anyone, it would have to be January signing Fode Mansare. An admirable performance against Sporting B was followed up with our solitary goal against Murcia. Sitting out of the horror defeat to Fuenlabrada (perhaps a sign), Fode returned to the team with a goal in the rampant victory over Ourense. The first two of many goals for the club, hopefully! After all, fate is such a funny thing
Yes! Cervero & Mansare. My old and new favourite Oviedo stars Now lets get into them play-off spots!!

Perhaps it is not a landmark for most, perhaps it was achieved under the wrong circumstances, but I don't care, I'm chuffed with it. Earlier, we hit 1000 views! Cheers for the support, guys.

Fun read.
Keep going. You still have plenty of games to turn it around and make the playoffs.
