Relegation tipped Stade De Reims have appointed French Legend Zinedine Zidane as their manager. The French club wasted no time in hiring him after sacking previous manager Hubert Fournier, just hours earlier. Zidane, 41, has represented France on 108 occasions, scoring for the side 31 times. During his international career, he was perhaps best known for headbutting Marco Materazzi in the chest in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy. He received a red card and Italy went on to win the trophy on penalties.
He played for four different clubs during his career, most notably Juventus and Real Madrid. When asked why he took the job, he replied " It is a chance to redeem myself for what I did to Marco and I hope I can pay back my country by restoring French football to what it once was." Whether the investment in international experience will pay off for Stade de Reims remains to be seen but we could be in for a treat with one of football's true legends taking the helm.
