DECEMBER UPDATE

December was a great month for Gary and his team, who’s electric start has evolved into an electric season…

With the winner advancing to the First Knockout Round and the loser finishing 3rd this match was effectively a knockout match in Group E. Fenerbahçe stepped up away from home and showed a ruthless streak to secure what was, in the end, a comfortable victory.

”I’m very proud of my team today. The odds were stacked against them tonight and in the group in general. After a tough start they really stepped up and they’re all ecstatic to be through to the knockout stages, as am I.” A smiling Neville told journalists after the game.

Fenerbahçe’s unbelievable form in the Turkish Premier Division continued with a win over their fiercest rivals, Trabzonspor.

Premier Division teams enter the Turkish Cup at the 4th Qualifying round and here Fenerbahçe faced Sariyer.

Fenerbahçe advance safely to the next round.

Back in the league, Fenerbahçe once again secure a comfortable victory, this time at the expense of Mersin i.Y.

In the 5th Qualification round Mr Neville’s team faced stiffer opposition in the shape of Orduspor, with a place in the Group stages at stake.

Fenerbahçe advance safely through to the Group stage where they will face, Galatasaray, Bursaspor and Kasimpaşa.

The final game of 2012 for Mr Neville was against Gençlerbirliği, the team safely dispatched yet another opponent to maintain there place atop the table.

CONSEQUNCES OF THE MONTH

Their fantastic form ensured that Neville’s team stay at the top of the table, still yet to be defeated; the team boast a 3 point cushion from nearest rivals Galatasaray.

Their nail biting victory over Zenit St. Petersburg completed an astonishing come back, from rock bottom of Group E to qualification for the First Knockout Round.

With this season going swimmingly and the money rolling in monthly, Gary Neville must surely begin to look forward, to the future of Fenerbahçe S.K.
You seem to be grinding out results which is great.

You put a lot of time into these updates and make it easy for the eyes, keep up the great work.

How is the Turkish division? i'v never played it.
despite what the results would suggest its not easy at all, this is my first time in it and i was worried it would be a doddle and although i am winning the league thankfully its a challenge :)

BOBADILLA’S FLYING START

Despite language and culture trials, Raul Bobadilla settled in quickly and knuckled down to doing what he was brought here to do, scoring goals.

With 4 goals in his first 5 game Bobadilla already looks to be a good choice on the part of manager Gary Neville and with 3 assists to boot he has shown that he can do far more for the team than just put the ball in the net, important as that may be.

”Raul, it’s been a great start to your tenure here at Fenerbahçe, do you think you can sustain the form you’ve shown thus far?” A smartly dressed woman asked him.

Bobadilla muttered something in Spanish, his translator spoke up…

“As far as my goal scoring record goes, that’s what I do, so yes I would hope so. However, the rest of my game I feel can still improve further.”

“And how are you settling in here in Turkey, your move certainly doesn’t seem to be effecting your game…”

Bobadilla’s young translator spoke quietly to him, waited for his response before looking up to the man who had asked the question, who sat scribbling something in a notebook.

”Obviously a move as drastic as this one, from Switzerland to Turkey, is of course going to be tough. It is hard not speaking the language or knowing anyone, but I’m no stranger to new places and I’m coping. The club have done everything they can to help me settle quickly and I have never been one to let off the field struggles effect my game.”

“One last question Mr Bobadilla?”

An older looking man enquired, Raul looked at the club press officer, who nodded, Raul in turn nodded to the journalist.

”How does football in Turkey differ from other countries you have played in?”

After quietly discussing with his translator, Raul looked up, he was going to attempt to answer this one himself.

”The football play, is same.” He said nervously.”Crowd though…” He looked at his translator for guidance, muttered to him and then looked up again. ”The crowds is very h-hostile, ehhhh, I think, uhh, they are very pash-passionate about the football, but hostile to, ermm, the opponents, hostile to the opponents.”

Feeling satisfied with himself Raul Bobadilla stood up and left the press room, followed by his translator. He had never enjoyed that side of the game, the press, especially when he could not understand what he was being asked. He knew it was necessary, but he just wanted to get back to his football.

JANUARY UPDATE

2013 kicked off with 4 Turkish Cup games on the bounce for Fenerbahçe and Neville, with the top 2 of a group of 4 advancing to the Semi Finals.

A steady result against Neville’s main rivals in Group A…

A fantastically well rounded performance from Gary’s boys, putting for past a very respectable Bursaspor outfit.

Another Group A victory puts the team in pole position to advance.

Another draw with Galatasaray leaves the 2 teams at a stalemate with 8 points each in the Group.

Returning to league action Fenerbahçe were once again firing, slamming 5 past Antalyaspor in a performance that featured some scintillating football.

A loss that puts the team into second place in Group A behind Galatasaray, however they still look likely to progress.

A draw which signals two games without a win, hardly diabolical but enough to worry Mr Neville that the form that has seen them fly so high this season may be about to let up.

Fenerbahçe recapture their previous form to win against Bursaspor and ensure their progression to the Turkish Cup Semi Finals as the curtain comes down on Group A.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE MONTH

Fenerbahçe still claim top spot in the Turkish Premier Division, their lead slipping to just 5, with 2nd place having a game in hand, as a result of their minor falter against Akhisar.

They qualified in 2nd place from Group A of the Turkish cup and will face Eskişehirspor in the Semi Finals.

”I’m really chuffed to be through to the semis and in with a chance of a trophy. This is what I came into management for; this is what it’s all about, winning silverware. I don’t wanna count my chickens but if you’re in it, you’ve always got a chance.”

FEBRUARY UPDATE

As the days went by and the Turkish sun stained Gary’s skin a dark brown, he allowed stubble to form on his jaw line. Gary began to look like a Turk; he ate like a Turk; he could now speak like a Turk, people began to mistake him for a Turk. He craved England, he had always prided himself on being English through and through and every time he had to correct someone on his nationality it was like they were questioning his patriotism. He felt like he had betrayed the country that had always served him so well, nurtured him and made him who he is, a feeling of guilt crept over his life like a dark shadow. Gary enjoyed his work immensely and he was doing a great job at Fenerbahçe but he always had the feeling that something was missing, that he wasn’t where he was supposed to be. Neville decided that if ever a managerial job in England became available to him, he’d take it, no matter what.

But life went on…

A disappointing draw but with an impressive lead atop the table Gary felt the team were due a minor slip up, he hoped that this draw was it, nothing worse.

A fantastic home win against a team that boast the likes of Hugo Almeida.

Another win for Fenerbahçe, the season is shaping up to be a very successful one.

A fantastic win in a tie that Fenerbahçe were certainly not fancied for. However conceding 2 away goals to Arsenal has ensured the tie is set up for a nail biting second leg.

”I really am pleased with tonight’s performance and result, however it is only half time in this tie and anything could still happen in the second leg. But of course, a win is a win and against a team like Arsenal, of course I’m proud of the team tonight.”

The league form continues for Fenerbahçe and Neville. At this rate, a title looks on the cards!

A disappointing home leg draw for Gary puts Eskişehirspor in the driving seat in this tie; Neville must now focus on the second leg to maintain hopes of a Turkish Cup in his debut season.

CONSEQUENCES OF THE MONTH

Fenerbahçe still sit at the helm of Turkish football with an 8 point lead, the title is seemingly theirs to lose.

Having netted an impressive 22 goals thus far throughout this season Dirk Kuyt has become a real crowd favourite at Fenerbahçe. If this impressive form continues it surely won’t be long until Liverpool are ruing the day they let this Flying Dutchman go.

And now the business end of the season begins, time to reap the benefits of the seeds that have been sewn throughout the season, and see what they bring you.
Some good results, especially vs Arsenal, good luck with the title :)

Gary walked slowly out onto the balcony, it was late and the sound of the crickets and cars in the distance were all he could hear. Everyone was asleep, Emma hadn't even flinched when he got out of bed and left her sleeping alone. Slowly, quietly he lit a cigarette, sat to the table and began to write...

Sunnyside House,
Liverpool,
Lancashire,
England,
LP7 7RY,

Monday 4th March 2013,

Dear Phil,
I know you'll think I'm stuck in the 20th century for writing you a letter but a letter seemed more appropriate. Everything's going great at Fenerbahçe, we're top of the league I can't quite believe how well I'm doing. On that front things could not be going better, but it's not football that I am writing to you about.

Despite my success I am yet to win over the Turks, they don't like my English style of play, it's frustrating because I struggle to see what more I can do. I'm top of the league in my first season, still in the Champions League and the Turkish Cup. Yet still they mock me I've heard them calling me the 'Stupid Little Englishmen' in Turkish, they think I can't understand them but I am well aware of my nickname, I'm cleverer than they think. I know you are the only one i can talk to about this, you'll understand how I'm feeling. I know we weren't so close growing up but I'd like to think that can change when I return from Turkey, I have so much that only you and I could talk about properly, I look forward to that.

I miss home immensely, England is where I should be, I know that now more than ever and yet I know that I must stay here. I know that to conquer frustration, I must remain intensely focused on the outcome, not the obstacles that bar my way and yet my heart yearns to be in England. I know I can't leave Turkey until I have silenced the serpents whose tongues would cut me down and call me a fool. I will prove them wrong, they'll all eat their words when my time here in Turkey is through. I may only be cutting my teeth as a manager but I'm already a better bloody manager than any of those cynical journalist could ever be. And when I've shown them to never discount a Neville, nor an Englishman, I will come home and conquer England with whoever will let me.

Awaiting that day,
Your Brother,
Gary.
Cheers, looks like its mine, fingers crossed :)

END OF SEASON REVIEW

hat promised to be an impressive maiden season for Mr Neville – turned out to be just that.

The first achievement for Gary and the team came in the Turkish Cup.

Fenerbahçe defeating Trabzonspor 2-0 to claim the famous trophy.

As Gary held the hefty trophy aloft, parading it above his head. For the first time he forgot all his troubles, his homesickness, his image in Turkey, none of that mattered in this one moment.

”Obviously I’m delighted. I know we’ve won the Super Cup already this season but as it was only 1 game in which I contributed to it, this feels like my first real piece of silverware, I’m a very proud man.”

In the Champions league the team surpassed all expectations by reach the semi final, dispensing Arsenal on there way. Here they met there match at the hands of Manchester City.

Not a trophy, but the semis are quite an achievement for a team who weren’t expected to make it out of the group stages!

Gary’s second triumph came in the league, claiming top spot by an impressive margin and not succumbing to defeat once through the whole season, there’s a new breed of ‘Invincibles’ Gary thought to himself on reflection.

The boys were absolutely delighted at reclaiming the title that they lost last term to Galatasaray.

Fenerbahçe and league top goalscorer, rather predictably, was Dirk Kuyt. Dirk was on another level to the rest of the squad at times and with his experience, drive and tireless legs he his very much looked up to by the squad.

The accolade for assists went to winger Miroslav Stoch with an impressive 15 assists.

So, after 1 season in management Gary Neville has a Turkish Super Cup, a Turkish Cup, a Turkish Premier Division and a Champions League Semi to add to his growing CV. Not bad for a debutant.

BREAKING NEWS: JOL LEAVES FULHAM

”I’ve been in football all my life, I need a break. It’s an odd world, that of a manager: your job consumes you, becomes you. You are no longer jus you, it has been too long since I have been just old Martin, not Martin Jol-Football Manager. I want to take a break from the game to allow time for myself to focus on the other things that are important to me; I want to see my Grand kids grow up without the distraction of football.” Jol told journalists at Craven Cottage this morning.

CLUB STATEMENT:We are sad to see Martin go, he has served us well over his short tenure here at Fulham and has always been respected as a true gentleman of the game. However, we must move on and rather than seeing this as the loss of a great manager we must see it as the birth of another. We look forward to a new era of Fulham Football Club.

It is unknown who will replace Jol at Fulham but from the club statement most are inferring that it will be a long term acquisition, most likely a young manager who can lead Fulham forwards in the ever changing world of Football.

Young manager Gary Neville has emerged as the front runner as far as the bookmakers are concerned. With 3 trophies already to his name and widely known to have a desire to manage in the Premier League, Neville seems the perfect fit for Fulham. The fresh manager could well see Fulham as a place to start a project and build for the future, could this ‘new era’ at Fulham be the ‘Neville era’?

THE NEXT BOSS OF FULHAM?

Some great results here and well done on the title. I think you should stay for at least another year tho :P

BREAKING NEWS: NEVILLE UNVEILED AS FULHAM BOSS

Ex Manchester Utd and England full back Gary Neville has today been unveiled as Martin Jol’s predecessor at Craven Cottage. Neville spent last year in charge of Fenerbahçe, leading them to 3 trophies and a Champions League Semi-Final. The young manager has a growing reputation in the football world and is said to be one of the hottest managerial talents around, despite his lack of experience having been a manager for just 1 season.

CLUB STATEMENT: We are delighted to be able to welcome Mr Neville to Fulham and look forward to a prosperous and exciting new era under his leadership. We hope he will enjoy life here at Fulham and that his time here will be very fruitfull.”

”I am delighted to have the honour of managing Fulham and I am very thankful for this opportunity. I enjoyed my time at Fenerbahçe immensely but the tug of working in England was one I could not resist. This is my home. I am excited about this next step in my career and am very relieved that I won’t have to struggle with Turkish any longer, or with the sill squiggles they put above their letters! I will be looking to bring in a lot of new players to Fulham to try to elevate the club into the top half of the table and beyond, I hope this is an exciting time to be a fan of Fulham FC.”
Oh a new mission!
yeah, won everything in turkey already plus youre only allowed 6 foreigners in the line up and there aren't that many turkish people who are good so it was very limiting, looking forward to this now :)
