Does anyone know an effective strategy to counter a 4-5-1 tactic? 4-5-1 seems to crush my team all the time.
What tactic do you normally use? Without this it could be hard to help you. My only suggestion would be to try fighting fire with fire and playing a variation of 4-5-1 against these teams. Also what team are you managing and what teams normally play this system that you struggle against?
I'm managing Dagenham and Redbridge. I usually use 4-3-3 (Standard), 4-3-3 (Wingers), 4-3-1-2 Standard, And sometimes 4-2-4.
Well I think it is important to look at the danger points in your opponent's set up.
Two wingers, so therefor four-at-the-back formations are a must.
That midfield triangle of 2 CMs and 1 DM/3 CMs will over-run you if you don't have the numbers in midfield too, meaning you must use either a midfield with 3 or 4 central midfielders.
So you have 4 at the back, then 3+ midfielders. So here are the formations you could use to combat the 4-5-1:
