A New Challenge

Recently I appear to have jumped from story to story, team to team with me not getting past the first season before I lose interest and want to try something different. The aim of the game is to win everything that you can possibly can with a team; however, this challenge is simply not challenging enough and my recent success with Chelsea, having won everything possible in the first season apart from the Capital One Cup, proved that I need to be challenged a lot more. The need to try something different and the need to write a more interesting, successful story was put into perspective when I found out my old Liverpool FC: Back to the Future/The Future story is still the fourth most read story on the FMScout site. In my own opinion, none of the stories I have written since have come close to emulating that particular story, which I also lost interest in due to winning everything.

I have previously attempted a save (without writing a story based on it) with me starting off unemployed but I quickly lost interest, due to me not doing very well...I simply gave up too way too easily. In order to try and emulate the success I had with my Liverpool story, I have decided to take up the unemployment challenge once again and this time stick at it for the long term with the aim, not being an in-game one, but instead to beat the number of views my Liverpool one received, which stands at 55, 267 views.

Game Set Up

The save is going to be set up with the following nations and leagues loaded:

  • England: Premier League down to Blue Square North/South

  • France: Ligue 1 only

  • Germany: First Division only

  • Italy: Serie A only

  • Scotland: Premier League only

  • Spain: Liga BBVA only

  • I will be holding out for a job in one of the English leagues as I have never been a fan of the rules enforced on you in other countries. However, with starting off unemployed and my past experience as a Sunday league footballer, I haven’t got any room to be picky.
That's a high target you have, but I think you might be able to get there! Good luck :D
glad tobe one of the first views....privalige. great start;)
Very good luck James it will be tough but you of all people can do it :P
SuperFrankieLampard: It is a very high target but I have done it once so have the confidence to be able to do it again and I hope you will follow me on the journey.

AaronHJFT96:Thank you commenting on the story and I hope you will enjoy it.

wellsy1498: It will be tough but as long as avid readers like you keep following me I shouldn't have a problem.
I really like unemployment challenges, was thinking of doing it next myself. Good luck will follow :)

I am very determined to stick to the story and the save. I do have to get over the first hurdle which is to actually get a job...I don't think it is going to be that easy.

    The Journey Begins

When the game was loaded there were many teams without a manager, ranging from Coventry City from npower League 1 to Luton Town of the Blue Square Bet Premier. None of the teams jumped out at me as ones that I desperately wanted to manage but I applied for them all nonetheless in the hope that I would manage to get my first job and the journey underway.

Unfortunately, out of the six clubs that I heard back from there was only two, Hayes & Yeading (Blue Bet Square South) and SC Freiburg (German First Division), which actually offered me a job. I spent a bit of time studying both teams; with the season yet to get underway I would have had the opportunity to spend the little amounts of money that I was promised and make some changes to improve the teams. However, I did honestly think that despite my past experience being set to Sunday league footballer that a better job would have come along. This resulted in me declining both the job offers and this was despite The Madrista suggesting that a story with SC Freiburg would have been a great one to read, sorry to him.

After the two job offers were rejected a lot of the vacancies were filled and it looked like I was going to have to go a while without a job. I went on a mission to declare my interest in a range of jobs from struggling Portsmouth all the way to the Canadian national job. Obviously all this interest was laughed off with the team sticking with the men they already had in place. To add to my misery I realised that I was subscribed to Liverpool, as they were set as my favourite team (which they are), and seeing all their news about new signings etc just made it a more depressing start to the journey.

Despite me not exactly exerting myself on the job front, I decided to go on holiday in order to speed up the process of finding my first job.

The only result of going on holiday was a job offer from Bath City who was then sitting in 22nd place in the Blue Square Bet South. Now there was a challenge that surely I couldn’t turn down! I did. I returned from holiday and rejected the job offer and applied for the Sheffield Wednesday job but that didn’t work out for me either. I then followed this with a two job applications to Marseille and Stuttgart and not surprisingly, I was rejected by both. I thought I was going to start to lose interest in journey despite having only reached November in game; however, two offers then came my way.
    Great update James,that cliff hanger;):o
Dat cliffhanger... Can't wait to see the offers!! :D
AaronHJFT96: I am glad you like the cliff hanger. The two teams that have offered me jobs are the same ones as last time and I have taken on the same team...which team is it you wonder?

Neal: The cliff hanger will hopefully bring you back to read more, especially the next update where I will explain my decision.

Can't wait to find out which teams, really liking this so far :)

The two teams are quite interesting ones and it was quite a difficult decision as I have had little experience in both the leagues. Also knowing next to little about both the teams made it even worse!

After previous experience with unemployment challenges, I think I know which teams they are ;) But I won't do a spoiler and will leave it to you to reveal them. I could be completely wrong too.
Not quite sure how you got offered the Freiburg job or why you rejected it, but I'll follow anyway :P
