Good luck mate, I hope that you take Hamburg to the European places.

Thank you Pauker. Not the worst start ever but I really do hope things get better and we can get some good form under our belts.
Good luck mate, great start so far!

Why thank you. I only wish that the start to the save had gone better :(

December – Mixed Fortunes

It was bizarre to see so little games to be played in the month of December as usually it is one of the busiest months with a lot being decided. I couldn’t believe how the team took the game to title favourites FC Bayern who just had no answer for our player of the month, Marcus Berg. FC Bayern totally dominated the game as I decided to play the team in a defensive 4-1-4-1 formation with our approach as counter. This meant that they dominated in terms of shots on goal but René Adler just stopped everything that came his way and if it wasn’t for Berg scoring a brace, he would have received the man of the match award.

You can understand my disappointment to see the team then slump to a defeat in the next game. FC Bayern were challenging for the title whereas Mainz were fighting to avoid relegation...how did we lose this game? HSV seem to be the most inconsistent team I have ever come across! All of my players came away with a rating of 6.9 and it showed in the fact we couldn’t even string simple passes together. It was one of the most frustrating games that I have ever experienced on Football Manager.

Even more bizarrely the German First Division has a long break which will see us fill the gap with two frendlies against lower league teams. This will give us a chance to get a bit of confidence back as we will have a difficult start back in the league with a match against title challengers Stuttgart, who had experienced a poor start to the season and had changed their fortunes.

It has been incredible to see so many managers being sacked this month and it does make me wonder whether I was too hasty in taking up the reins at Hamburg. However, a number of these teams are way above the head of a manager who only has Sunday league experience.

Player of the Month – Marcus Berg

Very odd month for you but excellent win over Bayern! Whip some consistency into HSV and they'll be well into the top half in no time :D

It was indeed a very bizarre month that started off so positively. We really do need to find some consistency over the next few games which is going to be a difficult task.
Wow! Not many times has that happened to me (winning against bayern) ...in pact it's never happened to me I always get battered 6-1 especially in a UCL final.
What a win againsnt Bayern! :D
AaronHJFT96:I was quite surprised that we got a win against Bayern who are destined to win the league. It is even more surprising that we then lost the next game to a much poorer side!

The Madridista:It was a great but nervy match to watch. I am glad it went our way though.

Our side just appear to leak goals and when looking at the abilities of the defenders you can see why they don’t perform well. It is not clear who is the stand out defender and who should be starting in the back four which means that a lot of rotation has taken place. Of course this then does not allow for the players to form an understanding which then just results being scored. This meant that improvements had to be made using the minimal transfer budget that was available to me.

Boyata was stuck in the reserves at Manchester City and when you look at his abilities you will think why on earth you would sign him, even on loan like I have. He has however, when I have signed him on previous saves, become a very solid defender which has then lead him onto becoming a first choice centre back. His ability progression has been severely hampered with him not getting first team action for City and that is something I can provide him, especially as I have little faith in my current defenders.

The deal has seen us sign Boyata on loan until the end of the season. In order to save the transfer budget, despite it being so limited, we won’t be paying a monthly fee but had agreed a potential future fee of £5 million to City if we want to make the deal permanent. I can tell you now, we won’t be doing that but instead it was used to make sure that the deal went through. I really hope he can make an impact and I will be pairing him up with Jeffrey Bruma to see if they can form some kind of partnership that will stop us leaking easy goals.

On the other side of things, a number of players have been released to free up some of the wage budget. I tried to sell a number of them but nobody was interested so they were simply released for minimalistic compensation fees. The only notable departure was Artjoms Rudnevs who has been loaned to league rivals Wolfsburg. When Rudnevs has been given game time he just didn’t perform despite having pretty good ability statistics. The main one he lacked was his finishing which is only rated at 10; this poor rating was clearly evident in his performances. No other transfer business will occur because we just lack the funds and need to try get the current players playing together before we bring in new faces.
Great win over Bayern there mate and I hope this one is for you and btw if you don't know I thnk you should take a look at my last update :(

I have indeed seen the news. Gutting but I am sure you will come back even better when FM14 comes out. The win against Bayern was great and hopefully is a sign of good things to come.
Just started my own unemployment challenge. I have been meaning to for a while ;) Anyway, great win versus Bayern was great hopefully you can find some consistency! :D

Ah well it would be great to see you write a rival story to compete against mine. I think we will find it hard to find consistency but I am sure the players will put everything into the upcoming games.
