From zero to hero - around the world

Hello everyone and welcome to my "from zero to hero" story! This story will be about John Smith's dream to become famous football manager. Unfortunately John has no experience in being manager except for playing Football Manager series for a few years. He also does not have any friends who work in this profession and could help him find a job. So he decided that he will be applying for vacant manager positions all around the world with hope that someone will be crazy enough to hire him. How will this work out? Read this story and you will see!

Career FAQ:

What is the main goal of this career? Have fun!
Are there any other goals? Win trophies with many clubs around the world!
What will posting style be like? I'll focus on short reports, usually after each 5 matches.
How often will you post? I'm just doing this for fun, so I'll try to post as often as possible, but won't say anything like "every day".
Will you include many pictures and replays? Yes, you can expect a lot of screenshots and replays.

Game setup:

My save game will include all leagues available in FM13. All of them will be playable and database size will be set to large. John Smith has Sunday League Footballer reputation and will begin game unemployed.

So, the time has come to find club for John Smith! Till the next episode!

Great start to your first ever story mate! However half star game speed is crap! You do realise you don't need to add all the leagues at the start? That you can add and remove leagues in game?

Anyway, good luck and a super start!

Yeah I know that I don't have to add all leagues on start but I think that it adds more randomness to choosing first club. I'll have to cut down number of leagues with time (probably). I've also noticed that half star speed does differ between computers. On my computer it is not that bad (I'm used to slow speed because I had a lot weaker computer not so long ago :P)

Chapter 1: Off we go!

John Smith begun sending job applications for position of manager on 22nd of July, 2012. He applied for jobs all around the world and waited. First few days were the most. Questions started appearing in Smith's mind. "Why is nobody answering?", "Will anyone be crazy enough to sign me?", "Should I really do this?" - that are just a few examples of questions he asked himself. Fortunately, the wait ended soon.

On 12th of July, 2012, Smith found himself on his way to first (and only) club that has responded to his application. The club was not big, also not very well known, as was Smith too. He was not too sure that he will be the best choice for manager, but fortunately he was (apparently) the only one who applied for the job. So, the club that wanted smith was:

Egersunds IK

Of course Smith didn't just go to Norway without checking out some club background at last. He couldn't check quality of players but he did some digging to at least find out what is current club's situation and what are league's rules. Here is what he found out:

The club seems to be in fair financial condition. Facilities are also fine. Team plays in 3rd tier of Norwegian league system (and is on 12th place out of 14 after 12 games out of 26). League rules are quite normal but only best team is promoted, so here we can see that challenge is big.

Everything about the club can be fine but contract also has to fulfill both sides' demands. Here's the contract which Smith received:

As you can see, there is one very interesting point in this contract. Board wants to use players from youth facilities. Those facilities' level is only "adequate" so it is unknown how it can go. But Smith really wanted to get his first job ASAP so he accepted board's challenge!
