Espanyol announce new manager

Spanish side Espanyol have today hired the clubs new manager in the form of former Newcastle United and Peru midfielder Noberto "Nobby" Solano. Well Solano, who turns 38 in December, is said to be delighted to land his first managerial role in Europe after a dissapointing spell with Universitario de Deportes in his homeland of Peru. Solano has reportedly been handed a 1 year deal worth around £13,250 per week in Spain, and has been tipped by critics and football experts around the world to settle in fast in Spain and help Espanyol climb the La Liga table. In a recent interview with Spanish newspaper MARCA, Solano was quoted saying this. "Its fantastic to be a part of the project at Espanyol, as they are a club who are in the shadow of Barcelona. My aim is to be able to win a new contract at the club beyond this season, and then hopefully take the club into European contention. I am grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity, and vow not to let the fans down.
Solano began his career in 1993 at Sporting Cristal making 11 appearances scoring once, before moving onto Deportivo Municipal making 27 appearances scoring 7 times. Solano then returned to Cristal in 1994, staying until 1997 scoring 31 goals in 97 games. He then moved onto Boca Juniors in Argentina, playing 32 games scoring 5 goals, before moving moving to Europe and scoring 37 goals in 182 games during a 6 year spell with Newcastle. He then had a 1 year spell with Aston Villa scoring 8 goals in 49 games before returning to Newcastle for a 2 year spell, making 58 games and scoring 8 goals. Solano then had a 1 year spell at West Ham made 23 appearances scoring 4 goals and then moving to Greece with Larissa, scoring twice in 17 games. A spell in homeland Peru in 2009 scoring 10 times in 32 appearances with Universitario de Deportes then gave him a re-ignitance in his career, as he then spent the 2nd half of the 09-10 season with Leicester making 13 appearances. In the 10-11 season, Solano followed Nigel Pearson to Hull, making 11 appearances, before moving to Hartlepool scoring twice in 14 games. Solano also made 95 appearances for Peru, scoring 20 goals.
