Hi,

I'm at a bit of a crossroads with the Football Manager series at the moment for a number of reasons. One of which is the fact that I cannot seem to create suitable tactics for my team, regardless of the team that I pick. In the last few years, I've had 3 successful saves; Wolves in 2011, Reading in 2012 and Rochdale in 2013. However, I've not managed to do anything other than these three saves past 6 months into the season due to frustration, and yet every FM-related website I go on, and every story that I follow shows people successfully developing and implementing tactics in their teams, whether they be Real Madrid or Forest Green Rovers!

So, can you, the community of FM Scout, please advice me on how to develop and create suitable tactics for various teams?

I understand every team has different variables that need to be taken into account, but there must be a set procedure that people go through to gain success? And so far, it seems that this procedure has bypassed me.
One thing that give an important contribute for successful tactics is to identify the kind of PPM for each role. PPM will train the player to do more frequently what he does best and to avoid what he doesn't do well.
What area is your team best?. Are they best on defense?. Are they best on attack?. Do your team have a strong midfield?.
If your have difficulties to hold possession and you have a good defense, and attack use a large width, quick tempo and direct passing will suite better. Since cannot hold possession they will try fast attacking plays.
Does your team have a very good tackling winning %?, more than 90%. If yes, pressure more can be a suitable team instruction.
These are something that I have into account when building tactics.
You can download tactics from the site as well if you need to:
