Jol Decides To Quit The Cottage

Following billionaire businessman Shahid Khan's recent takeover of London club Fulham, club manager Martin Jol, who took over managing the club in June 2011, has walked out of the club, stating that he refused to work with such a "fame hungry" chairman. Mr Khan, who is also the owner of American Football side Jacksonville Jaguars, has refused to comment on the hostile relationship between himself and Jol.

When asked what he planned to do about finding a new manager, Khan replied: "That has to be top on my list of priorities right now. Martin has left so we need to act quickly if we are to find a suitable candidate for the job. I am sure we will be able to attract a lot of candidates for the job, but I will not act hastily in my decision to appoint one of them. If I am to help build this club into an international force, then I need to consider each candidate very carefully before making my decision."

As you can see, Mr Khan wants to make sure that the managerial candidate he chooses is absolutely right for the job. With a potentially big spending budget involved, could we see a high-profile manager take the seat at Craven Cottage? We are sure to bring you the latest updates that develop here in the next few days and will hopefully be able to bring you the name of the new manager. Until that point, there is nothing more to say about the situation, so we wish Fulham luck in their search for the right man.

Jol Replacement Found Quickly At Craven Cottage

Fulham chairman Shahid Khan has acted quickly in choosing a replacement for manager Martin Jol, who quit his post at Craven Cottage earlier this week following a falling out between himself and Mr Khan. His successor - Edwin Van der Sar. Van der Sar, 42, played as a goalkeeper for Fulham between 2001-2005, before moving on to giants Manchester United, where he stayed until his retirement in 2011. Many fans are said to be delighted with the capped Dutchman's decision to return to Fulham and several have praised Shahid Khan for his choice of manager.

Former Fulham player Louis Saha, who played with Van der Sar both at Fulham and Manchester United, has spoken of his joy that his former colleague and close friend has returned to the club they both hold fondly in their hearts. "Edwin is a really great guy and he has experience in both the Premier League and Fulham, so I really hope things work out for him. He has great footballing knowledge and is also a born leader. I think Fulham will be greatly strengthened by this appointment." said Saha before jokingly adding "Perhaps Edwin will offer me a job there?

So it would seem that the decision to appoint Van der Sar is a popular one, and now he will be turning his attentions towards club matters. With several transfers being made before the departure of Martin Jol, including the capture of experienced England international Scott Parker from Tottenham Hotspur, and the loan signing of Darren Bent from Aston Villa, will we see much more transfer business going on in Craven Cottage or will Van der Sar work on other things at the club, such as harmonizing the team? We will have to find out but for now all we can do is wait.
nice appointment mate :) I thought him or Saha
