Prologue: MCH Messecenter Herning Saturday, 24 April 2010

I sat with my head in my hands in my changing room in the MCH Messecenter Herning where I had just lost my first ever fight and it was one of the most important fight of my career, with this lose I had lost my world title belt and all the glory and reputation that goes with it. I couldn’t carry on like this I had faced an onslaught of body blows and my eye had deep and excess swelling , Rachel wouldn’t be happy and my son couldn’t see me like this anymore it was time to retire from boxing for the sake of my health , my wife and kid. The fight its self wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated but I was no where near 100% , food poisoning had hit me hard from a few bloody kippers that I had while training in my base camp in Norway. Kessler was a great man and a great warrior , I don't want to make a mockery of anything but I feel if it was at home in my town, the decision would have gone the other way, I took some big punches off a big puncher and I've got to give Kessler the credit he deserves. He stayed in there and is a strong, proud warrior. The fight was scored 117-111, 115-113, 116-112, all in Kessler's favour which I feel is a fair result but enough is enough and I’m going to become a heavyweight in another sport , that sport being football and hopefully one day become the Nottingham Forest manager.

(Thanks to Kane for the banner)

The First Day

My First day at the office, the same office that Brian Clough once sat in, my ideal and probably the only reason why I support Forest not the shite across the road , I looked at the dossier left on my desk by the owners with a guide to running the club and there aims and goals for me. There was a smaller second file to my left simply with the name “Deadwood” umm my job was being done for me then I realised the date , 1974 the year the greatest manager in history took over , I flicked through looking at the handy work of his assistant Peter Taylor admiring his eye to detail and immense eye for everything. I realised I had to find my Taylor to my Clough.

I opened the first file and I was surprised at my transfer budget a meagre 275 K , compared to other clubs this was very poor but I looked through the squad and picked out five players that I should sell and raise money with: David McGoldrick worth around £2 Million and his scoring record in lower leagues would earn him a move away , secondly Matt Derbyshire one of the worst buys Forest have done overrated and needed to be shipped out and fast hopefully hed sink County or Peterborough rather than rot in the reserves. Thirdly Darius Henderson who averaged a goal 1 in 3 games which isn’t enough for us hes out, fourthly and fifthly John greening and Marcus Tudgay rubbish and not needed.

Then I turned to the free agent list the only way we’d acquire players I made three of them my summer targets , The free scoring Egyptian Mido , Del Horno with all his experience and passion and finally Louis Storey an 18 year old academy player that had been released from Newcastle the summer was about to end and pre season to start then I had a phone call ….
