It was something I'd always dreamed of doing. Ever since I installed Championship Manager on to my PC from the ancient Floppy Disk, I knew that I had to do everything I could to become a top-class football manager at some point.

I had the talent, I knew that much. I mean, who else could mastermind the rise of Vauxhall Motors FC and turn them from BSN minnows in to European masterminds in only ten seasons? Me, that's who. Of course, that never actually happened outside of my Championship Manager save...but I knew I'd be just as good in reality!

The gossip on the internet was rampant with talk of a new reality TV show being produced in conjunction with the FA and a host of partner clubs. They were inviting applications from armchair football managers and offering them the chance to be the manager of an actual football club...for a week only! Reading between the lines, it was obvious that none of them would ever actually get the chance to manage the club, but it was an opportunity I just couldn't turn down.

I headed over to the FA's website and eagerly entered my details on to the web form. I checked and double checked to make sure they were all correct, I mean I couldn't risk missing out on this just because I missed a digit off my phone number! When I was satisfied everything was correct, I took a deep breath and I hit 'Submit'.

That's it, it was done. My fate was in the hands of the God's now. Would I finally get an opportunity to shine, or would I be just another disappointed armchair manager? Was I soon to find my face plastered all over skysports news, or was I destined to spread my footballing knowledge within the confines of my favourite Football Manager online forum? Only time would tell...

In a move that's sure to cause controversy amongst fans and players alike, Staines Town have announced that they will have a new manager for the coming season, Jay Masterson.

Jay Masterson is known only for his recent appearances on the FA's reality TV show, "Be the Boss". The show caused controversy across the world, with many viewers claiming that it was fixed and that the 'competitors' had little to no actual input with regards to the running of the team, but Staines Town chairman Matthew Boon is said to have been so impressed with the attitude and knowledge of Masterson, that he offered him a contract to take over the team for the new season.

Boon had the following statement to make: "Obviously, under Marcus Gayle's guidance, we've made huge strides in terms of our progression. But I think the time was right for a new direction and new approach to the team. Masterson showed me that he has the kind of vision and knowledge needed to propel this club forward and I'm honoured to be able to welcome him to the club.
I'd also like to thank Marcus for all of his efforts and I'm sure he's destined for great things in the future"

As of yet, Masterson has been quiet on the whole situation, but with the world's media now fixed on this unlikely star and seeing just what, if anything, he can do, it surely can't be long before we hear from the man himself.
Any feedback / input would be appreciated at this point!

It's a great start mate. My main advice would be that you should keep your enthusiasm and write for your sake if you're regular enough people will notice.

I like the diary type story that you have chosen, it gives you an excellent chance to write some very personal prose and that is one of the hallmarks of a great story.

Thanks for taking the time to at least give me a post! I do enjoy my stories, but I think the point of a story is for it to be shared! I'll keep plugging away and hope that this gathers more momentum, but thanks for the feedback and advice, it's appreciated!

What a crazy few weeks it's been! One minute I'm filling out an online form, along with a million other football crazy lads, next thing I know I'm starring in a reality TV series and then being offered the full time job as Staines Town manager! If I didn't know better, I'd think that this was just a made up story or something....

Anyway, getting down to business has been something I fully intend to do with this opportunity. I may not have any idea what I'm doing around here, but I don't want to let anyone else in on that secret. The boss has told me there's a press conference scheduled for later today, if I can come across well in that maybe the lads in the team and the terraces will respect me a little bit more?

The hate mail has already started, checked my email inbox to find twenty five emails from random nutty fans telling me that they'll kill me if I lose a match, or they'll burn me alive if I get the team relegated, etc, etc...they don't scare me, but I have started double checking the door locks on my office, to make sure they are secure.

All the lads on the team have just come back from their holidays and we're supposed to be having our first training session tomorrow. I don't have a clue about coaching, so I'm hoping that I can get a handful of decent coaches on the staff as soon as possible...at least that way it'll take the focus of my complete ineptitude!
The squad seems a little small, but we have no funds to work with. We're a little bit under budget on the wages front, but we're not exactly in the sort of financial position to be able to go out and spend too much more...I guess we'll have to try and spend this season consolidating and see what our youth squads can generate for us.

Heh, look at me, for someone who doesn't know what they're doing, I can sure talk a lot of rubbish about the job! Oh well, duty calls, off to meet the media for the first time as manager of Staines...this isn't going to be pretty....
