Annual Player Awards
World
Ballon D'Or
Winner:
Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)
Runner-Up: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
3rd: Andres Iniesta (FC Barcelona)
Messi wins the Ballon D'Or for the
7th consecutive year. The magical Argentinian superstar is almost undoubtedly the greatest player to have ever walked the earth, proving it with a tally of 46 goals in 55 games and a 8.36 average match rating. Ronaldo finishes 2nd place for the 5th year in a row and his 7th time overall.
Golden Boy
Winner:
Ademilson (Inter Milan)
Ademilson becomes the third Brazilian in a row to win the award after Rafinha last year and Neymar the year before after a scintillating calender year with Inter, managing to score 26 goals in 34 appearances. A bright star for the future and even present of football. Delighted to see a Nerazzurri face in the awards!
Italy
Player of the Year
Winner:
Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan)
Runner-Up: Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus)
After winning the award twice on the bounce in the last two seasons, Juventus and Italy star Leo Bonucci has finally been dethroned by Inter Milan counterpart Andrea Ranocchia who enjoyed a spectacular year with the Nerazzurri. The towering center back was given an 8.00 average rating for the year and thoroughly deserves this award. Delighted for him!
Italian Player of the Year
Winner:
Andrea Ranocchia (Inter Milan)
Runner-Up: Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus)
3rd: Mattia Destro (Inter Milan)
Of course the winner and runner up of the Player of the Year award are Italian, so no surprise as they finish top 2 for this award as well! Mattia Destro of course wins third place after an absolutely sensational goalscoring year. It's a fantastic pleasure to see two of my lads, both Inter born and bred, celebrated as some of the best in the league.
Foreign Player of the Year
Winner:
Haris Seferovic (Fiorentina)
Runner-Up: Juan Jesus (Inter Milan - Now Sporting (POR))
3rd: Arturo Vidal (Juventus)
Haris Seferovic absolutely tore up the league this year, finishing second in goal scoring only to his Inter counterpart Mattia Destro. Seferovic proved all his doubters wrong and thoroughly deserved the award. Despite only decent performances in my opinion, Juan takes second place, and I'm very pleased for him!
Manager of the Year
Winner:
Pasquale Marino (Atalanta)
Runner-Up: Javier Aguirre (Fiorentina)
3rd: Guiseppe Bergomi (Inter Milan)
Well, I won't lie, I'm a little disappointed to take third, but a lot of credit must go to Marino for taking an average Atalanta side to 4th place and the lucrative Champions League for next season. Aguirre took his newly promoted Fiorentina side to 6th place, an incredible achievement, and deserves his second place finish as well.
