I come from a small town call Burnley where i entered into a career in coaching.
My first club i coached was at my local team Burnley where i was first team head coach for 6 years. I got my big break when Accrington Stanley gave me an opportunity to manage the team. I gained a lot of experience in 4 years at the club.
I heard about King Kenny losing his job and it saddened me as i am a supporter of Liverpool F.C. Two weeks went by when i received a telephone call from the chairman at Accrington Stanley telling me Thomas Werner was interested in talking to me about the Liverpool job. At first i thought he was joking with me because he like to pull my leg a little. Three days later i received a call from Thomas Werner asking me to come up to Liverpool F.C on Saturday for an interview.
Saturday came along very fast next thing i know i was sat in the chairman office in front of Thomas Werner and the Liverpool board of directors.
They said to me they want to take the club forward and get back to winning ways. We talked for a few hours in which i told them my style 4-3-3 no wingers up front only 3 out and out strikers, 3 midfielders, 1 defensive midfielder and a flat back 4.
They loved the idea and offered me the job there and then. It was a dream come true i had made it to one of the biggest and well supported clubs in the world.
