Keeper Decisions

Liverpool have confirmed the departures of Brad Jones and Doni, lessening the squad to only one senior keeper in the form of Pepe Reina.

Jones leaves the club after two years at Anfield, and now moves to Fulham for 500k. The Australian is expected to provide cover for fellow Aussie Mark Schwarzer and David Stockdale.

Doni leaves to Chelsea for 1 million, being the fourth senior keeper at the Stamford Bridge club, joining Petr Cech, Ross Turnbull and Hilario.

On getting a replacement keeper, Dabool said, "I will (think about it). Maybe a youth keeper could be promoted to being Pepe's backup, maybe we'll buy a new keeper. I don't know."

Pre-Season

I leaned back in my chair and inspected the report handed to me by Rodolfo. It was a file of all the pre-season friendlies we had done on paper, the goalscorers, match stats, you name it.

It wasn't a satisfying pre-season at all, but I was tweaking with tactics after all.

Friendlies
Liverpool 2 - 0 Liverpool Reserves
Johnson
Suarez

Carolina RailHawks 0 - 2 Liverpool
Coates
Skrtel

Liverpool 0 - 2 Celtic

Vancouver Whitecaps 0 - 0 Liverpool
I prefer to be refered to as "Nick" and not "Dabool! :P

And try using this 4-2-3-1 tactic which I have developed over the years. You know who to play in what roles I'm sure :)

Is that the tactic on your story?

P.S. The media always refers to someone by their full name first, then their last name. :P

The Debut of Nick Dabool

Clive Tyldesley: Hello, you join me and Andy Townsend here today at Eskisehir Ataturk, Jesus, I can't even pronounce that, haha. It is Liverpool versus Eskisehirspor here today for the Third Qualifying Round of the Europa League, and this will be manager Nick Dabool's official managerial debut.

Andy Townsend: Right you are, Clive. Let's take a look at the team sheets, shall we?

Liverpool: Reina; Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique; Sahin, Gerrard; Sterling, Suso, Borini; Suarez

1' - We kick off here at Eskisehir Ataturk for Nick Dabool's managerial debut, and of course, Liverpool's Europa League Third Qualifying match.

31' GOAL - After half an hour of moving the ball about, Liverpool attack, with Borini heading the ball down for Steven Gerrard, and the influential Liverpool captain picks out the run of Luis Suarez with a first-time pass into the path of the Uruguayan. It's left to the former Ajax man to finish the job, and he does!

39' - What a mistake by Jose Enrique, as he accidentally passes the ball to Diomansy Kamara, and the Eskisehirspor striker blasts the ball afar with surprisingly good accuracy, only to be denied by the crossbar.

45' - HT: Eskisehirspor 0-1. The Reds lead at the break.

45' - The teams come out at half-time, ready for the next 45 minutes.

46' GOAL - Raheem Sterling times Fabio Borini's run into the box perfectly and swings a low cross in for the Italian. Borini responds with a diving kick that knocks the ball into the net. A goal on his debut, not a bad way to introduce himself at all!

62' - Jonjo Shelvey will come on for Nuri Sahin.

73' - Some brilliant passing football from Liverpool ends with Raheem Sterling delivering a cross into the box, but Eskisehirspor keeper Boffin punches it away before it can reach anyone.

74' - Borini hits a cross into the box and it curves into the net, leaving a very surprised Italian, but the linesman rules it as offside.

76' - Joe Allen comes on for Steven Gerrard.

78' - Erkan Zengin wrestles with Luis Suarez for the ball and eventually Suarez is pushed roughly to the ground. The ref comes over and hands Zengin his second yellow card! It's the end of the game for him.

82' - It's Oussama Assaidi on for Raheem Sterling.

90' - FT: Eskisehirspor 0-2 Liverpool. Dabool's boys never looked like losing and the fans will be happy with how the team played today.

From Blue to Red

Liverpool have announced the signing of Birmingham keeper Jack Butland.

The 19-year-old goalie becomes Nick Dabool's first managerial signing and also his first signing for Liverpool. Already starting to have somewhat of a growing reputation, Butland made his breakthrough at Cheltenham last season, making 24 league appearances for the League Two club on loan. He eventually received a call-up to the England squad for the Euro 2012 in Poland & Ukraine at the end of the season, replacing John Ruddy after the Norwich keeper got an injury before the tournament.

Liverpool have got their man for 5 million, beating off interest from Tottenham.

"Liverpool are a fantastic team and it's awesome that they've showed interest in me," said Butland. "I can't wait to put on a Liverpool shirt and play as a Liverpool keeper."

Butland will take the number 1 shirt at Anfield, vacated by Brad Jones who moved to Fulham a few days ago.

Nick Dabool has also informed the media to "expect a few more signings".

"The sales of Downing, Cole and Henderson have given us some funds and with these funds we can sign players, and we have. I do not want to reveal anything at the moment but the fans should expect some confirmation in the coming days."

Brazilians

Nick Dabool has dipped into the South American market, with Liverpool confirming the signings of Adryan and Ademilson from Flamengo and Sao Paulo respectively.

Adryan, 18, is a virtual unknown in the world of football. But Dabool is convinced that the lifelong Flamengo supporter will become the next Kaka.

Ademilson, also 18, does not have a spectacular goal-scoring record, yet has convinced Dabool to buy out his 5 million release clause.

Adryan and Ademilson cost a total of only 6 million, and coupled with the purchase of Jack Butland, the Reds have dished out 11 million on signings this summer.

"It could be one of the best 6 million I've ever spent," Dabool remarked, on the signings of Adryan and Ademilson. "They can become world class players in my opinion."

Coincidentally, the two Brazilians made their debut for the Brazil Under-20s last week together, both scoring a goal on their debuts.
Anyone noticed that the name Jack Butland is funny? :P

August: The Beginning

A rather good first month for us, sort of.

We overcame Eskisehirspor over two legs, before struggling to knock out Arsenal Kyiv. In the Premier League, we got off to a good start against Norwich, but pummeled back down in the next match against Fulham.

August Transfers

It was a rather good transfer window for the club, as we spent 11.25 million, yet earned 12.25 million. Money is money, however little.

The Group Stages

We have been grouped with Italian side Udinese, Romanian club Cluj, and a Hungarian club which I've never heard of, to be honest.

Topping the table will be a breeze with Udinese looking like the only worthy opponents here. However I decided to not underestimate any of them, even that Hungarian team I knew nothing about. Mentally, I set my team the target of topping the group.
