Striker Conundrum
Santo Salvatici may have a bit of a headache over which strikers to pick for the second half of the season, with three of his front-men performing exquisitely in 2012. The three in question are Ben May, Sami Ben Aoun and Calum Willock, all three having at least 10 goals in the league, only 22 games in to the season.
Ben May took the spotlight up until November, as he had already earned all 10 of his premier league goals, as well as scoring in other competitions. Taking the role of target-man but also bagging a handful of self-made goals for himself, May looked like a wonder. Unfortunately, the man with the most goals in the league suffered in an injury that would put him out for the remainder of 2012, if not longer.
With May out, the Whites needed a target man to fill in for him while absent. Calum Willock would be the man to fill his boots, and while his first few games proved a slow start, he eventually picked up the pace and looked a mirror of Ben May, if not better, scoring 11 league goals.
Sami Ben Aoun, the third striker, signed by Salvatici in July, is perhaps the most impressive of the three. Despite playing more games than both of them and only bagging 10 goals, equal to May, he has accumulated an impressive 13 assists to date, making him the top goal-maker in the league. He has made partnerships with both May and Willock, and his playmaker/poacher style complements them both.
Ben Aoun is likely to remain in the team, but the real question is, who will join him? Will Salvatici pick the man who, at the start of the season would be considered Dover's best forward by a long way or the backup-man Willock with 11 in 13?
