Klinsmann Resigns!

In a shocking turn of events, Jurgen Klinsmann has resigned from his post as manager of the USA national team. The German coach has resigned two matches into the Third Round of World Cup Qualifiers, having beaten Panama 3-0 and drawn Costa Rica 1-1. Many fans are disappointed, as Klinsmann seemed to have been heading in the right direction of making the Stars and Stripes into a major footballing nation. The American FA said in an official statement:

Jurgen Klinsmann has resigned from his job as manager of the USMNT. He has done a great service to the United States and done the country proud. We wish him well for whatever lies in store.

In a press conference earlier today, Klinsmann spoke out about his resignation. "There was no problem with the FA, no problem with the players. I enjoyed my stay in the US. I am very happy that everything was cordial. However, I want to get back to club football or manage another European nation. That is where my future lies."

The US reportedly has a number of high profile targets in mind as Klinsmann's replacement, with current LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena the leading candidate. Ex-player and one of the top US scorer's of all time, Brian McBride, is also being mentioned.

Good start mate, deffo will be following this story, should be good! :) good luck :D

McBride Announced USA Manager

The American FA have moved swiftly to replace Jurgen Klinsmann, having now appointed ex-star Brian McBride as manager just a day after the German's resignation. The appointment has pleased many fans, as McBride is still remembered as a legend of the game for the US.

Over the course of his career, Brian McBride was a talismanic striker. He played for Wolfsburg, Columbus Crew, Fulham, and Chicago Fire, while also enjoying loan spells at Preston North End and Everton. McBride also captained the Fire and the Cottagers, and racked up 144 goals in 450 games. He also earned 96 caps and scored 30 goals for the national side.

McBride was revealed to the press earlier today, and was ecstatic about his appointment. "I'd picked up my coaching badges pretty quickly after retirement and I knew I wanted to help football take off in the USA. I'm really happy to be at the helm of the national side, and I plan to stay here for the long run and hopefully bring a lot of success to this country."

McBride's first game will be a friendly against Wales on August 15th.

USA Squad Revealed

The first international break of the season has come here in mid August and Brian McBride will get his first taste of international football as a manager. The American's first match will come on the 15th as the USA take on Wales in a friendly match that will take place in Cardiff. Here's McBride's first ever 23 man squad:

Goalkeepers: Tim Howard (Everton), Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Stefan Frei (Toronto FC)

Defenders: Timothy Chandler (Nurnberg), Oguchi Onyewu (Malaga), Carlos Bocanerga (Racing Santander), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Michael Parkhurst (Nordsjaelland), Steven Cherundolo (Hannover), Geoff Cameron (Stoke)

Midfielders: Michael Bradley (Roma), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Brek Shea (Stoke), Maurice Edu (Stoke), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Mikkel Diskerud (Rosenburg), Graham Zusi (Kansas City)

Forwards: Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), Hercules Gomez (Santos Laguna), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose), Eddie Johnson (Seattle)

McBride has only picked 6 players from the MLS, the rest plying their trade overseas. New Tottenham star Clint Dempsey has failed to make the squad due to injury in what will surely be a blow to the USA's chances.

Speaking with the press today, McBride was asked about this mainly foreign squad. He responded, "I think it's important for the MLS to grow, but right now I have the best players to put on the USA shirt. Right now, a lot of them have earned moves to what are now superior leagues, and things will stay that way until the MLS starts keeping big name American players."

McBride was also asked about potential tactical approaches to the game. The ex-stiker smiled and responded, "Attacking football is what everyone wants to watch. We will give every team respect at this level, but we want to play an attacking style and dictate the game."

McBride will want to get off the best start possible, as his World Cup qualifying campaign kicks off a few days after at Haiti. He takes over after Klinsmann went 1-1-0 in his first two matches in qualifying, leaving the USA tied atop their group on 4 points.

American viewers can catch the friendly against Wales on ESPN at 2:30 Eastern Time on August 15th.

Whatever happened to Mr. Bear Halter?

Edit: You should consider Birmingham City's right back Spector or Specter or whatever. He can play in midfield too I think.
