All is not as bad as it seems, we managed to get 1 loanee in, and then have been blessed with a ten day break, meaning I now only have 3 injuries!

So It All Comes Down To This

The dressing room was eerily quiet. The nervous tension seemed to chew up any form of conversation. The boys thought they'd already blown it at Nuneaton last week, our defeat meaning we needed Southport to not win and Mansfield to lose to claim the play-off spot.

Tahir had shown his face to the lads 5 minutes earlier, emphasizing his soundbytes of "no pressure" and "whatever happens happens." The players did not seem to find him as calming as I had in the past. Now it was my turn.

"In August I watched us concede 14 goals in 3 games. I, like you lot, thought that we were going down. Look at us now, we're on the verge of something amazing. Hell, even if we don't make the play-offs we've accomplished something fantastic. Regardless of today, you deserve a medal each. But let's win and give ourselves a chance eh? You never know. Hope is not a bad thing. Come on lads!"

Pride in Failure: Part 1

The dressing room was awfully quiet for a side that had just won 4-1. The players had found out the other results, and were disheartened in the fact that our most unlikely of play-off pushes was at last dead.

Not that the lads should have been disheartened, after the season we had. Financially we'd saved the club, maybe we could afford more than 15 contracted players next season. They sky ahead looked bright and together I thought we could accomplish anything.

By the post-match meal, customary for out final game, the lads were back in buoyant mood, maybe their collaborative success had set in. Either that or the free alcohol on offer. Many hours later, I strode from the ground, across the car park, past the training complex, and into my car.

If I'd have known it would be the last time I did so, I would have savoured the moment just a little bit more...

Tahir's of Separation

I answered the phone, I had a month off so was spending most moth a bacon sandwich in boxer shorts. Today was no exception.

"Hello?" I murmured, a tired moan from the back of my throat creeping out as I spoke.

"Hello Daniel, I trust all is well."

It was Tahir.

"Urm Yeah thanks, what can I help you with?"
"You see Daniel." Tahir began, in an introduction that never meant anything positive would follow. "Despite the success of last season, the board of directors still feel that we should be making more costcutting measures."
"But we made a ass profit last year! And we've barely got any players as it is!"
"Yes, yes I know I keep facing that stark reminder." he responded, in a tone did not find agreeable. "However, the Board have decided that the staff wage budget is to be cut by £1,000 a week."
"To 2.5k? There are players in our league who make that in a week! ow do you expect me to make a good team with that?"
"Maybe you could alleviate some of your staff?" There was a harsh tone in his voice.
"Like who? The only one making anything less than a pittance is... I paused, finally clocking where the little Indian was leading me to. "Gav."

Silence greeted me down the phone line, as I contemplated the thought of sacking my friend. This lasted for about 30 seconds.

"You know what?" I said. "I thought after all I'd done for this club this season, making this lot believe in themselves and making those selfish bastards upstairs a few pennies that they'd have shown me some sort of financial backing. I'm not sacking my friend, you can take this as my resignation, and I will be sending a formal letter of resignation in tomorrow. Meeting adjourned.

The phone hit the floor, and angrily I found my way to the fridge to alleviate what had just happened with alcohol.
Nice update! Keep it up :)

Highlander

'I fucking hate this place.' was all I could think as the mist, even in September descended. I was sat in the Audi, for my third managerial interview in three months, my first in Scotland.

I thought my reputation was a lot bigger than it was following Hyde's success. And it took a few silent rejections from low championship teams for me to try my hand at the lower leagues. However, even interviews with Shrewsbury and Gillingham had seen other offers accepted ahead of my own, and 3 months had passes without pay. My gut was now slightly more visible as the boredom and lack of motivation had taken its toll. Hell, I'd bite a Scottish teams job offer any day.

The team in question were recently relegated Alex McCleish. Aberdeen had not been able to sack Alex McCleish when he took them down last season for financial reasons. However, when he resigned nocompensation was paid. The process of their manager selection must have involved some rejections to go on for 4/5 weeks, but they had w0n all 4 of their league games and sat pretty at the top of the table.

Stewart Milne greeted me, he was a short greying man, who looked stressed at the clus current predicament. We got to talking.

"So Daniel, what we are looking for is a young ambitious manager to sign young players who we can profit from, and of course for a return to the SPL this season. The ground work for that is already underway as you can see, and we expect for the first season largely you will just have to turn up."

"Well I'm desperate for a job, and if you want me I'm your man." I smiled at their apparent desperation, this was more of a formal job acceptance than an interview.

And hour later I was back in the Audi, looking for a cheap hotel whilst I tried to sell my house in Manchester, as for the foreseeable future I would not be needing it.
