Pressing Room - Interview With Mark Ricketts
Mark Ricketts is a defender currently playing Blue Square Premier Side Woking FC. Ricketts is the current captain of the club and has been since 2010. After previously playing for Charlton Athletic, Milton Keynes Dons and Ebbsfleet United, Ricketts has gone on to became a fan favourite, appearing almost 200 times at Kingfield Stadium.

After getting in touch with the club over a possible interview, and they really kindly offered Mark Ricketts as the perfect candidate for the interview. The staff then managed to get the questions sent to Mark all to bring this interview. Thanks very much to all those who helped made this possible, notably David Holmes, and of course Mark Ricketts himself.

K - What has been the best moment of your time at Woking?

MR - Winning the league in 2012 and getting promoted back to the Blue Square Premier was a brilliant moment.

K - What is the biggest challenge you have faced in football?

MR - The time I spent out injured and trying to get back fit when I broke my leg was tough!

K - Who was your footballing role model when growing up?

MR - I’m not sure I really had one growing up but I’m an Arsenal fan and I used to love watching Tony Adams play.

K - What is your favourite game you played in for Woking?

MR - My favourite? The cup games against Brighton a couple of seasons ago.

K - What was it like becoming club captain in 2010?

MR - It was a surprise and a great honour, and I’ve really enjoyed the challenge.

K - Who is the best player you’ve ever played against?

MR - The best player? Robin Van Persie or Giuseppe Rossi

K - What was it like to win the league and promotion with Woking?

MR - It was a great moment, it was disappointing to have missed half the season after breaking my leg but it was still very special to be part of such a successful team that year.

K - Who do you think is the hardest to play against in training?

MR - Giuseppe Sole (Current striker known as a fan favourite to many)

K - What are your personal aims for the upcoming season?

MR - I want to finish at least top half again this season but obviously you have to aim for the top of the table.

K - Woking finished the season in a very respectable 12th place. How do
you think the club will fare for the 2013/14 season?

MR - Our squad is still taking shape but I think we will do well again this season. Keeping a good number of the squad together was really important and the experience we have gained from the last season together should really help this year.
