Hütter line up is 3-4-3, not afraid to change the shape of the formation as needed (5-2-3, 3-2-5).

Tactics puts a lot of emphasis on creating width in the initial phase of build up, as well as freedom and flexibility in the positions and movements of players.



Wingbacks who provide passing options in the offensive third mean that their formation in attack often takes the shape of 3-2-5.

In the first phase the game belongs to the central defenders and pivots. Slow building causes a lot of horizontal passes using full width of the pitch. Pivots (usually two) in this phase are responsible for the passing options and the transition with the ball to the middle zone, then followed by a rapid vertical progression to the offensive third with a direct threat to the opponent's penalty area.

In defense Hütter often switches to low block taking the 5-2-3 shape with wingbacks support. Defensive lines stay narrow as they try to push the opponent outside.
