Whitecaps sign Di Vaio

Vancouver signed Montreal Impact's Marco Di Vaio in exchange for an allocation fund of $650,000 and a trade of Defender Andy O'Brien.
Di Vaio was part of the Impact team who won the Canadian Championship in 2012.

Di Vaio's arrival has been greeted in positive fashion, with supporters talking about how happy they are.

But on the other hand Montreal fans are livid.

This is interim manager Mike Korrigan's first major signing in the transfer window.

Galaxy win in controversial fashion

LOS ANGELES- This will be night that will be on Whitecaps supporters minds for the season. Los Angeles won by a score of three goals to two. There were two major issues.

In the 11th Vancouver defender Jordan Harvey was called for a handball that should have not been called. This lead to a yellow and a penalty that was converted by LA's Robbie Keane.

Later on the game got more bizarre when Los Angeles scored the go ahead goal in the 88th minute. Forward Gyasi Zardes scored while he was way offside.

Many fans took to social media after the match calling for a review.

After the match manager Mike Korrigan had this to say. "You have to be kidding me, there is no way in hell that that goal was onside, we played league darlings Los Angeles so I am not surprised that they got away with so much bullshit." "Dear Don (Garber) and the rest of Major League Soccer stop having a hard on for LA and New York."

Harsh words from a upset coach.

The final three matches are fast approaching for the Whitecaps and their window to make the playoffs is closing fast. The last few matches have been so so with mostly draws and a bad loss to San Jose a few weekas ago. Even if they don't make the playoffs I hope they give Mike an extension, he has done so well and turned the club around, next season should be great since the highly rated Carlos Fierro ill be joining the squad.

Final three matches:

10/16/13 @ Real Salt Lake

10/19/13 @ Colorado Rapids

10/26/13 Real Salt Lake
Bad luck with the injury of Di Vaio, but Carlos Fierro will win a lot of points!
I never normally like MLS stories but this has caught my eye. The signing of Fierro is just amazing and he will do wonders in the MLS :P
@ AAN and Wellsy thanks guys!!

Whitecaps make the playoffs
10/16/13

After the 5-0 beating of Real Salt Lake Vancouver has clinched the 5th and final playoff spot. This has been an incredible season for a club that was dead last in June and fired their manager Martin Rennie. With two matches remaining they don't have to worry about winning out.

The club will be facing San Jose in the Wildcard Playoff. Unlike the later rounds this stage is a one and done deal. Winner moves on to the Western Conference Semi Final.

Look out for the MLS Playoff guide. This will give a 411 on what teams are in and playoff rules.

MLS Cup Playoffs:
The MLS Cup Playoffs is the postseason elimination tournament of Major League Soccer held at the end of the regular season en route to the MLS Cup, the league's championship game. 10 teams in total from the Eastern Conference and Western Conference qualify for the tournament based on regular-season records. MLS awards the regular season winners with the Supporters' Shield and a direct berth in the CONCACAF Champions League, the continental tournament. The regular season champion must be a U.S.-based club in order to receive direct entry to Champions League. (This means even if I win as Vancouver I won't be going to the CCL unless I win the Canadian Championship)

Qualification:
10 teams will qualify for the playoffs – the top 5 teams in each conference, that have the most points in the standings upon the completion of the 34-game regular season.
The seeding is as follows
The top 5 teams in each conference qualify and are seeded 1–5 in their respective 5-team playoff conference brackets. The top 3 teams receive a bye.
The 4th and 5th place teams in each conference play in the First Round

2013 Participants:

Eastern Conference:
Sporting Kansas City
New York Red Bulls
Montreal Impact
Houston Dynamo
Columbus Crew

Western Conference:
Los Angeles Galaxy (2013 Supporters Shield winners)

San Jose Earthquakes
Vancouver Whitecaps

Dates:
October 30&31 Western and Eastern Conference Wild Card Round
November 2-7 Western and Eastern Conference Semi Finals. (2 Legs)
November 9-17 Conference Finals (2 Legs)
November 30 MLS Cup Final (One Match at TBD)

Wild Card:
10/30/2013 San Jose v. Vancouver
