SOUTHAMPTON 1-2 NEWCASTLE

Whilst Southampton actually had slightly more possession of the ball, at 53%, it was mostly in their half with Newcastle constantly on the attack, putting 22 shots towards Southampton's goal (whilst the home team only struck 11.) However, this game was more complicated than stats will show and it seems it was quite well balanced, with the Magpies just edging it.

The game quickly got interesting when a Santon cross was deflected in to the path of Shola Ameobi in the 4th minute. Ameobi volleyed the ball in to put the Toon 1-0 up. At 27 minutes, the Saints penetrated Newcastle's defense, Pablo Osvaldo rifling home the equalizer. The game was put to bed, however, in the 65th minute when Wilfried Zaha struck an unsaveable shot in to the top left corner.

After supplying the attack with a range of top-class chances, it was Davide Santon that was crowned Man of the Match. The Italian was not only a threat to the opposition's defense, but he also prevented many of the possible goals that Southampton were creating.

NEWCASTLE 3-0 BLACKPOOL

Despite the fact Newcastle, in general, played much better football than the seasiders, Blackpool did hold almost half of the possession and rivaled the amount of shots Newcastle put on goal, alas, this was not enough to stop the Toon, who bulldozed their fellow Wonga team.

The game was the third in a row that Newcastle had scored in the first four minutes, new signing Matheus Biteco chipping the ball to Wilfried Zaha, who launched the ball across the turf and in to the net within 20 seconds of kick-off. 20 minutes in to the game, Jonas Gutierrez delivered a delicate cross to Gabriel Obertan, who scored with a half-volley. Blackpool's remaining hope was diminished by Vurnon Anita in the 85th minute when he riffled an exceptional shot past the keeper.

It was on-loan Man United forward, Wilfried Zaha, who was declared player of the game after scoring a goal and setting up Anita's strike, as well as participating in and creating several other major attacks.

Soon after the game, the draw began. Newcastle were pitted against fellow Premier League team, Tottenham Hotspur.

NEWCASTLE 1-0 STOKE

Newcastle dominated possession once again in their second home game of the season, having the ball in their control for 63% of the match. Despite their control, it seemed Newcastle were experimenting a little with the passing game and going for less shots, hence only scoring one game.

The only goal of the game came in the 37th minute when Yohan Cabaye played a through ball to Hatem Ben Arfa who calmly delivered the shot in to the bottom right of the net from an awkward angle.

Stoke's Erik Pieters was Man of the Match, despite Davide Santon showing an excellent performance once again at left back. Many fans, including non-Newcastle supporters, have stated that the young Italian deserved it equally if not more.

"We've had a bloody good start! Ben Affleck scored a beauty yesterday and Kebab and Saldini didn't do too badly either! I am confident that the Toon Armada can get top half already."

Newcastle Loan Summary

The transfer window slammed shut last night and Newcastle loaned out a total of eight young players to teams in other divisions.

Adam Campbell, the 18 year old England u-19 striker, who has been heralded as the next Wayne Rooney, has been loaned to Aberdeen in the SPL. Campbell as already played 5 matches, scoring a goal in one of them.

Sammy Ameobi has made his way to Tranmere for a short loan to hone his skills. So far he has played 2 games, and has put a shift in in both of them. It has been suggested that Ameobi will remain at Tranmere for only three months.

Paul Dummett has returned to St. Mirren for a second consecutive loan spell at the SPL club. Last season, Dummett played 30 games and scored 2 goals. He has only made 1 appearance so far for the Scottish outfit, but he looks to be a first team regular.

Curtis Goode will return to the lower English leagues to play for Coventry this season in League 1, where Bradford currently play, the team he was loaned to last season. Goode will be hoping to be a regular at the club after a top class debut.

Earlier in the transfer window, Remi Streete was sent on loan to Notts. Co., where he has maintained a place in the first-team and delivered an array of constistent performances. The youngster is another that has been tipped for a bright future.

Gael Bigirimana made his way on loan to Huddersfield at the start of the season and has become a regular for the Championship outfit, already appearing 11 times for the club, including friendly games. The Burundian player will hope to get noticed by the England u-21s this season.

James Tavernier is another Newcastle player that is on loan to an SPL team, St. Johnstone. He too seems to be a first team player for the Saintees, which is sure to make meetings between St. Johnstone and other clubs with Newcastle players interesting.

Tom Ince was of course loaned back to Blackpool for a six month period after singing for Newcastle this summer. He has already scored once and assisted once in the five games he has played and will hope to leave Blackpool on a high in January.
Good that you're getting your youth players game time, I'm sure it'll help them progress:)

Especially players like Campbell... if I left him sitting in the reserves, his development could be worrying. It's that argument of Squad Depth V Youth Development.
It's definitely a good set of starting results. Stoke is always tricky, especially with a technical squad. I always go for a bit of youth development over squad depth, but then again, I get a month and a half off in January, so whether or not that works in the PL is a different story...

It seems Campbell is doing well though...

Best of luck, yes?

Thanks mate, and yeah, that winter break does make a difference, so it is quite interesting.

Thanks guys!

NORWICH 0-1 NEWCASTLE

The game could be regarded as close, but in truth, it was Newcastle who deserved the win in the end with a catalog of chances and well over half of the possession, and away from home, too. Though Newcastle's midfield and attack proved unstoppable, Norwich's defense held them off for a good portion of the game.

The only goal of the game came in the 64th from QPR loan, Loic Remy, who calmly hit a powerful ball past Norwich keeper John Ruddy, leaving the Canaries deflated and the Magpies on a relative high. In the end this goal was crucial. Remy played as a left winger for the majority of the game.

Javier Garrido was named man of the match after denying Newcastle many of their best chances, preventing Remy from bringing the ball in to danger areas as well as intercepting and clearing the ball on multiple other occasions.

MANCHESTER CITY 3-1 NEWCASTLE

Even though Manchester City did not take the lead until the second half, they undoubtedly deserved the win, only giving Newcastle one or two chances in front of goal whilst they piled on the pressure. Having said that, Newcastle did well to only lose by 2 goals.

Alvaro Negredo gave the Citizens a good start with a quick volley in the 9th minute of the game. Papiss Cisse outsmarted City defenders with a half volley in the 20th minute. Yaya Toure struck an unpreventable effort in to the top left corner in the 70th minute, killing the last of Newcastle's confidence. Negredo put the result to bed, earning his brace with a simple yet well taken tap-in on the 75th minute.

Vincent Kompany was the man of the match today, organizing his team's attacks, preventing Newcastle's and holding his team together incredibly well as captain.

TOTTENHAM p 2-2 NEWCASTLE

The game was a Spurs show for the first half, the London team constantly on the attack. However, the second half was flipped on its head and presented Newcastle's threatening side. The game ended a draw and moved on to penalties, but had it been a Premier League game, both teams would have gained a point, and deserved it.

Christian Eriksen hit a surprise long-shot 15 minutes in. Spurs added to their lead on the 33rd minute with an Erik Lamela volley. On the 50th minute, an off-target Zaha shot was deflected in to the net by Hugo Lloris, the own goal putting Newcastle one behind. Moussa Sissoko hit a powerful shot in to the net only three minutes later for the equalizer.

The game went in to thirty minute extra time, but no clear chances emerged, the players weary and uninspired. The result was then decided by penalties, Spurs hitting home all five of their penalties. Newcastle, however, missed one which would see them knocked out the competition.

The man of the match was Erik Lamela after he created dozens of chances for Spurs. There were several other contenders but in the end the Argentine winger bagged the prize.
