Villain to Anti-Hero

The following story has been written by Akash, a.k.a., the Evil Mod.

This is going to be unlike most stories, where there is more focus on the manager's personal life than usual, but without losing out on anything FM related. You could skip the character building posts if you are not a fan of it, but I suggest you force yourself to go through them. It'll give you a better idea about the reasons behind the decisions made by the manager in-game.

Football at 40

"Are you fu-king kidding me? I told you the last time - If I see you near our house again, I will smash your face in!", said Kumar, his face red with anger. An insignificant tap on the shoulder made him instinctively turn around, and it calmed it down almost immediately.

"I'll handle it, Kumar. He looks like he needs some help". The composed voice of Anjali was nothing but a sham. She was terrified. Last time Rahul had rung her door bell was around 6 months ago; it ended up turning into a police matter and a hefty fine for public nuisance. Kumar moved aside, but with nothing more than six feet between his wife and her crazy ex-boyfriend, he wasn't taking his eyes off them. It irked him when they shook hands, but was happy to see the back of Rahul, without any drama.

"So, what was that all about?", Kumar asked Anjali.

"You know, Rahul really wants to turn his life around. He's been sober for 2 months and he wants to get back into football". She wanted to believe it, but there was no real conviction in her voice.

Kumar sighed. "I understand that you dated him for 6 years, Anjali, I do, but you are no longer responsible for his actions or his expectations. How does he plan to get back into football at 40? What does he expect from you now?".

"Yes, I know! The last time I believed him, it ended up costing us a lot of money, but he wants nothing more than Rs.5000 this time, for a coaching course. Football is the only thing he knows well, and he wants to make a living out of it. He seemed sincere.", Anjali pled Rahul's case.

"I don't know what to tell you, really. He is a ticking timebomb. He comes here every time he needs money because he knows he can manipulate you. He's never going to let go, if you feed this habit of his.", said Kumar firmly, taking a stand.

"You don't need to say anything. 5000 is nothing to us, and it could change his life forever. I asked him to return in 15 minutes to collect the money. Back me up here."

Unhappy, but helpless, Kumar replied, "Fine, just tell him you are done."
