I am a Mac user and like someone else here couldn't find the Steam file in application support. By total fluke i finally found it. With Football manager open press the 'command key' and the 'tab key' to get back to the desktop.
Then 'right click' on the FM14 tab in the dock, go to options and click 'show in finder'. This will bring you into the steam library

Just in case someone else made my mistake, I wanted to add something I learned:
I have this tendency to avoid deleting files, "just in case", so at first I didn't remove them, I just moved them to an "old" folder in the data\db\1430\ path.
However even after 4 years of game play, the senior team of Germany was still greyed out.
So I came back to this page, trying to retrace my steps, and this is when I got the light bulb.
It is not enough to move the files, even if outside of the lnc folder, they must be removed: as long as they stay in the \data\db\14XX\ path, they will be loaded by FM.
Also, there is a way to check if your modifications have had an effect on your installation of FM:
Load your save game, go to FM menu and pick Add Manager. Choose any name, experience, etc, and go straight to 'Pick a team to manage'. On the select list, choose National teams and then Senior national teams. If you can see Germany in the list, you are all right. I tried before and after removing the files, and I could see it only after the deletion.
Hope this helps.

Is this the same for Football Manager 15? Seen as the 1400 folder is now called 1500, does it need to be done in a different way? Thanks for your help with this.
thanks.
