AC MILAN v FC INTERNAZIONALE
Why was I even worried? Why was I nervous?
I have no idea, I shouldn't have been purely because of these two words - Christian Benteke.
We went behind to a 12th minute goal from Inter old boy Mario Balotelli against the run of play but the Belgian beast equalised four minutes later and gave us the lead on 31' before Kovacic made it 3-1 on 36' and Benteke completed his hat trick two minutes before the break.
HALF TIME - AC MILAN 1 - 4 FC INTERNAZIONALE
Matri gave Milan a glimmer of hope on 48' but Benteke made it 5-2 on the hour mark and went on to grab his FIFTH of the game on 72' before substitute McDonald Mariga completed the rout on the 80th minute with a header from Bonaventura's cross.
FINAL SCORE
I doubt if anyone would have predicted that scoreline but no doubt we have answered all the critics with 10 goals in 2 games against two giants of Italian football.
This was a sweet win, a destruction - we had taken our city rivals and stadium cohabiters apart on what was their 'home' fixture.
I applauded our fans and ensured all my players did the same, they were terrific.
Walking off the pitch, I knew that my drive was back, I listened to the blue and black wall of noise and the hairs stood up on the back of my neck.
I was back.
MAJOR NEWS
I got home and flicked on Sky Sports News to see that after a poor start to the season by Milan's huge standards and the demolition at the hands of my side - Milan had sacked Massimo Allegri.
I felt for him, he seemed like a good guy but tonight, it was Milan or Inter. Connolly or Allegri.
And I wasn't losing.
