Match Updates November

Friday 8th November 2013 – Jupiler League – Het Kasteel, Rotterdam – Att. 7,788

Sparta Rotterdam 0 – 3 De Graafschap

Vincken (23, 90+2)
Sreckovic (37)

We lined up with a 4-1-2-2-1 formation and it was a pretty good game to watch as a neutral with chances for both sides. We created a lot more than Sparta and Vincken ran the game scoring two great goals. The last few games have really brought the boys together and I’m loving the effort they’re putting in. It is really clear to see these boys have more belief about them now.

Friday 15th November 2013 – Jupiler League – de Vijverberg, Doetinchem – Att. 8,972

De Graafschap 0 – 0 FC Den Bosch

This was a frustrating game to watch as we simply couldn’t put our chances away. We dominated the possession and shots but their keeper was in top form and we had to settle for a 0-0.

Friday 22nd November 2013 – Jupiler League – Woudestein, Rotterdam – Att. 2,151

Excelsior 1 – 0 De Graafschap

A poor game in which Vincken missed a penalty. I also lost two players to injury and it seems this club is just injury plagued. It was a pretty even game but Excelsior managed to put away one of their chances and we were left to look back on our mistakes. This was our first loss since that crazy game against FC Utrecht. I hope it doesn’t unhinge our season!

Friday 29th November 2013 – Jupiler League – de Vijverberg, Doetinchem – Att. 7,675

De Graafschap 1 – 0 FC Emmen

Vincken (pen 32)

Having finally got back to winning ways was a relief. The issue we seem to be having is not getting enough shots on target though with 14 shots at goal and only 3 on target. This is a worry and I feel we need to improve the coaching level as well.

League Table

We’ve had a fantastic turnaround at the club since I took over and bar the one loss we have been racking up the points and climbing the table. We sit pretty in the play-off positions and have guaranteed a play off spot with out recent run of form. I’m pleased with Vincken’s and Veerman’s performances as they have pushed us forward as well as Ted van de Pavert, who has been a rock at the back. We’re coming in to December which will have 4 games and if we can stay in the playoff spots I will be pleased going in to the month long winter break.
nice update mate.. keep going :)

Some good result, shame about the loss and it sucks about the injuries. Hopefully you can keep up the good form and secure a play off place come the end of the season.

Frank’s Press Conference

JR = Journalist
FvK = Frank van Kouwen

JR: Good morning Frank, thanks for joining us. You’ve been out recently with injury but the club have been on a somewhat good run since Edwin has joined the club. Can you tell us a bit about what he’s done for the team?

FvK: Yeah it’s actually been a big change for us. The previous boss, no disrespect, seemed to not really know how to get the best out of us and struggled to deal with the injuries. The new gaffer has given us back some of our belief but he’s also brought in better coaches and got more involved with our training. His experience at the big clubs as a player is showing.

JR: Sounds like nothing but praise for him but recently your last few games haven’t gone so well. What do you think is the reason?

FvK: More than the gaffer, it’s the players who just haven’t pulled through in games. We start off well but there are the odd mistakes that creep in. The good thing is that our initial run in the league with Edwin has guaranteed us a playoff spot.

JR: There have been a few contracts signed lately at the club but yours runs out in 6 months, yet you’re the captain. Have you had any chats with the boss about that?

FvK: Haha I was waiting for this. Well yes I have had a chat with the gaffer and at my age we both know I won’t be able to carry on at this level much longer but also if the club does get promoted I won’t match up to the competition and so instead of really jeopardising the club’s future I feel it best to do my part now and move on. He’s shown a lot of faith in the players here but a player has to know when they can’t hack it at a certain level.

JR: Do you think this club has what it takes to get promoted? There are some better teams ahead of you and some of the players aren’t really Eredivise quality.

FvK: I think you’re being very unfair. This group of players have a lot of fight and in the youth team there are some very good youngsters who will get their chance. I feel Vinckers and Pavy will definitely be able to cope along with Veery and Bobo. The group of lads here are good but of course there’s always the opportunity for improvement with the transfer window.

JR: Seems like you’ve got a lot of faith in the boys around you. That’s all we’ve got to ask you today, thanks for your time Frank and good luck!
Looking very good here! :)

That journalist doesn't know shit haha :P
You are going to win the playoffs. BECAUSE I SAID SO! :P
Brilliant turn around Krupesh, I can see you getting promotion this year! :)

January Match Reports

Friday 17th January 2014 – Jupiler League – Kras Stadion, Volendam – Att. 2,766

Volendam 0 – 3 De Graafschap

Vincken (pen 13, 43)
Massop (65)

A very good game and we could have scored even more had we not been as wasteful. Vincken is killing it on the wing and is consistently turning in good performances. After the December we had, a win was vital after the long Christmas break.

Friday 24th January 2014 – Jupiler League – De Geusselt, Maastricht – Att. 6,234

MVV 1 – 2 De Graafschap

Veerman (17)
Baldé (71)

Having set up to play on the counter worked in this game as we were able to carve MVV open several times and managed to also take advantage, with Baldé smashing in the winner from a corner. One game left in January and if we end it unbeaten we’ll be climbing the table nicely.

Friday 31st January 2013 – Jupiler League – de Vijverberg, Doetinchem – Att. 11,157

De Graafschap 1 – 0 FC Oss

Vincken (47)

FC Oss were absolute rubbish and we should have scored 5 or 6 had it not been for their keeper. He was man of the match and it was only him that stopped us from wracking up a great scoreline. A great month from the boys pulling together and we now have a strong foundation for 2014 to kick on and hopefully end the season in top spot! It’s a long shot but we have the squad to do it definitely.

League Table

Good month mate, 3 wins in 3! Signs of a new era at Graafshcap?:P

January Transfer Window

Taking over a club in September means missing out on the Summer transfer window and having looked through my side I knew there were positions we needed to strength. Nenad Sreckovic left the club on a free transfer after agreeing a move even before I joined. Something I was very angry about because he was a key contributor to the team. What that meant was having to find a left winger who would be available on a free as we have no transfer budget. I also knew there was a lot of deadwood in the squad that needed to be shifted.

I sold Tim Bakens to Tom Tomsk for £40,000 but had to release lots of players on free transfers as there weren’t any clubs willing to take them on, even when I offered them for free. It was disappointing to lose them for nothing but the fact was they were just eating up the wage bill. At the end of the transfer window I managed to reduce the deficit from over £10,000 to just over £2,000.

I brought in three players for free – a defender, winger and striker.

Having joined us from PSV, Verkoelen has come with the big club experience and hopefully will settle to become a first team player. With my releasing of a couple of defenders, this was a much needed signing.

Kanga was a pretty much perfect replacement for Sreckovic and probably a better player going forward. His abilities led to him getting five assists in his games for us as well as a goal.

Danny is perhaps the biggest signing to join the club. He has had great experience with PSV and had a very good record with AZ Alkmaar. He’s edging to the end of his career but having him in the squad helped with his experience and the ability to hold up the ball.

Anco Jansen is another player who is on his way out. He struggled in the Eredivisie and I felt as though he was not worth the wages being paid. He will join AS Veroia in Greece.

I definitely hope the three players will help us keep pushing for promotion. With a play-off spot sealed, automatic promotion now is the aim and I’ve got a very sneaky feeling we’re on a major turnaround from when I joined and can now go on a run to make that possible.
