Poyet Makes Major Staff Changes
With
Poyet having a bigger role at
Sunderland, he has officially terminated the contracts of
Italian scouts
Antonio D’Ottavio and
Massimo Mirabelli, and former
Brighton Hove Albion coach
Charlie Oatway, after a reported bust-up between the pair. It is understood that Poyet was not happy with the English coach’s training drill, and summing up his late arrivals at the club’s ground.
BBC Sport, Sky Sports and various other football websites have confirmed this as well, but it is rumored that ‘punches were thrown’ between the pair.
A statement in the club’s officials website said,”We wish good luck to
D’Ottavio, Mirabelli and
Oatway in their future jobs. Fully supporting our new manager,
Gus Poyet, we have relieved the three staff members, in order to ‘upgrade’ our standard. We would also like to clarify this supposed ‘issue’ between
Oatway and
Poyet, with rumors that there was an alleged fight. However, this are just rumors, with
Poyet and
Oatway settling the way it should, in an office.”
Departures
Quickly, the manager brought scouts, coaches and physios from all the world, with
Portugal and
German former greats,
Pauleta and
Bern Schneider, the most notable. However, he added more than he fired, with
Barry Whitbread, David Geddis, Massimo Giurola, Angel Vales, Phillipe Goubet, Chico Fraga and
Brazilian coach
Ivan Couto. The manager publicly stated that
Sunderland's staff was 'poor, overrated and needs a fresh change'. Certainly with the new additions in the staff room,
Poyet will be pleased, along with the board, as
Poyet's first actions, have already started,
'Sunderland's Revival'.
