Following the sale of Gabby Agbonlahor to Stoke, Aston Villa were quick to react as they captured Eduardo Salvio from SLB on deadline day for a reported £21 million despite late interest from West Ham who claimed that "they weren't prepared to pay the player such high wages". In 2012 SLB and Atletico agreed on Salvio to join the Portuguese giants on a 5 year contract making 53 appearances, scoring 10 goals and making 13 assists.
