Gary Lineker: Tottenham Glory

Tottenham continue search for AVB replacement

After Andre Villas Boas was sacked by the Tottenham board a few days ago, rumours are circulating about who his replacement will be at White Hart Lane. At the moment, Tim Sherwood is the caretaker manager, and it seems unclear if Sherwood will be taking on the role permanently or whether someone brand new will take the realms at Spurs. So, today we'll be going through the five top candidates for the job other than 44 year old Sherwood...

Roberto Di Matteo
After being sacked by Chelsea in 2012 and being AVB's successor at Stamford Bridge, Roberto Di Matteo has been looking for a job, and with Villas Boas being sacked yet again, Di Matteo seems like one of the best possible people for the role. Having also managed West Bromwich Albion and Milton Keynes Dons, Di Matteo doesn't lack management experience, and also having won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea within a few months, he's not lacking in success, either.

Michael Laudrup
Currently the manager of Premier League side Swansea City, Michael Laudrup has brought much success to Wales, having won the Capital One Cup with the Swans. However, he's also managed Getafe, Mallorca, Spartak Moscow and Brøndby, as well as a stint as Denmark assistant manager. Laudrup has admitted that he's interested in the vacant job at White Hart Lane, but would he be willing to leave the Liberty Stadium to manage Tottenham?

Glenn Hoddle
Glenn Hoddle is no stranger to Tottenham Hotspur, having played there for 12 years and managed there for 2 years from 2001. He's also managed sides such as Chelsea, Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Swindon Town and most notably the England national team. He hasn't managed a team since 2006, but may be willing to go back to White Hart Lane for this opportunity.

Martin O'Neill
Despite being the new manager of the Republic of Ireland, Martin O'Neill has been heavily linked with the vacant spot at Tottenham, and if he was hired, fans would probably be divided. On the positive note, he has a lot of experience in both management and playing - he's managed Sunderland, Aston Villa, Celtic, Leicester City, Norwich City, Wycombe Wanderers, Shepshed Charterhouse and Grantham Town. However, these teams are much, much different to the likes of Spurs, and some would doubt whether he'd be good enough as Tottenham manager.

Thomas Tuchel
Currently manager of German side FSV Mainz 05, Thomas Tuchel is a newby to management, but that doesn't mean that the 40 year old isn't capable of managing a side like Tottenham. He's been heavily linked with various vacant managerial roles throughout the Premier League, but White Hart Lane may be his destination.

So, that's what we think, but who do you think will take over at Tottenham Hotspur? Nobody knows for sure, but it doesn't hurt to guess. Well, unless you bet all of your possessions on Andre Villas Boas randomly returning one day. That'd probably hurt.
Ooooh, RDM! :D lookign forward to this mate! :) good luck
We want O'Neill
we want hoddle, we want hoddle. Alex mccliesh could be a surprise name in it too :P
Good luck!

Lineker hired as new Spurs manager

The unexpected manager: Gary Lineker has been hired as Tottenham's new manager for the season.

In a shock move, Tottenham Hotspur have hired Andre Villas Boas' replacement in club legend and now Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker, dividing the fans completely in half. Lineker, 53, played for Spurs for 3 years between 1989 and 1992, scoring an impressive 67 goals in his time at White Hart Lane. He is most known for playing for the Lilywhites and some fans are delighted to have Lineker at the realms, claiming no one knows the club better than Lineker.

As soon as he left school, Lineker joined home club Leicester City in 1978. His career started slowly and he was mostly kept to make the odd appearance. However, in 1981, he began to start more regularly alongside Alan Smith, and together they became a prolific strike force. His time at Leicester lasted between 1978 and 1985, it finished with him gaining 194 appearances and 95 goals.

The next club Lineker was to join was Everton in the summer of 1985 for a fee of £800,000. He was the top goalscorer in the First Division in his first season with an impressive 30 goals, and helped the Toffees get to an FA Cup final, where they lost 3-1 to rivals Liverpool. Liverpool had also pipped Everton to the title that same season by 2 points. In the 57 games he played for Everton, he scored 40 goals before heading to the World Cup in Mexico.

After a very successful World Cup campaign in 1982, and gaining the Golden Boot, Lineker was signed by Spanish giants Barcelona, for a staggering fee of £2,800,000. In his first season, he scored 21 goals in the 41 games he played, and also won the Copa Del Rey in 1988 and the European Winner's Cup in 1989. However, when Johan Cruyff took over the club, Lineker lost his place in the team.

After fierce competition from Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur were the next club Lineker signed for in July 1989. In his first season (1989-1990), he finished as the top scorer in the First Division once again, scoring 24 goals as he helped Spurs finish third. He finally collected some English silverware in 1991 as Tottenham won the FA Cup in a tense final against Nottingham Forest. He was also one of the top scorers in the 1991-92 season, scoring 28 goals and Ian Wright being the only one bettering him. Despite his goalscoring displays, however, Tottenham only finished 15th that season.

In a somewhat shocking move, Lineker moved to Japanese side Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1992 after Tottenham were defeated by Manchester United 3-1, despite accepting a contract offer over 6 months before the move was finalised. His time in Japan was injury-plagued and over the two seasons Lineker only played 23 appearances, scoring 9 times before announcing his retirement from football.

Lineker has had no managerial experience, so the move comes as quite a shock to fans all over the Barclays Premier League, but in an interview with Sky Sports News, Lineker said he was confident about his chances in the league.
"I'm really looking forward to being able to prove myself as a football manager, a move that I've been pondering for a while now. Tottenham are a club that have always been in my heart, and to start off my management career with them is unbelievable. I've already got many different moves planned - whether any of them will work is a different question"

"I'm confident about the side's chances in the league, but of course I'll need to have a more in-depth look before making any decisions whatsoever."
HOLD UP... LINEKER?! lol good luck mate :)

Reyes heading to Spurs?

Spurs bound: Is Gary Lineker about to make his first signing in José Antonio Reyes?

Sevilla's attacker José Antonio Reyes is apparently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who have recently had Gary Lineker take over as manager. The fee is believed to be around £10m, but nobody has any idea whether the deal is true or false, as it's been reported by Marca of many different news sites.

In an interview with Marca, Gary Lineker supposedly said
"I want to sign the Spanish focker because we lost Gareth Bale and our team is now full of shit. Especially that Cristiano Eraldo or something. Absolute shit."

These words are believed to be false, but Sevilla chairman José Castro Carmona said
"I can confirm that we are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur for an agreeable fee for 29 year old Jose Antonio Reyes, although nothing has been solved yet. Both Daniel Levy and myself will let people know when a fee has been agreed and the deal is nearly complete. At the moment, the fee is around £10m, but as I said, nothing has been solved yet and there could still be many changes."

Other players linked with a move to White Hart Lane are Brighton's Jake Forster-Caskey, Manchester City's Javi Garcia and Arsenal's Tomas Rosicky.

Tottenham sign two

After being heavily linked with a number of players, Tottenham Hotspur have finally signed someone, and it's not just one player - it's two. Spending a total of £13.69M on these two players, and letting two go themselves, Tottenham can be safe to say they've been active this transfer window.

In

The first player to join Lineker's side was Sevilla's José Antonio Reyes, who was heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer, and joins the club for a fee of £9.5M. In his entire career, he's made 384 appearances for clubs such as Sevilla, Atlético Madrid, Benfica and North London rivals Arsenal, scoring 62 goals in since 1998.

The second player joining Spurs was Jake Forster-Caskey, another player linked with a move, from Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee of £4.3M. In his short career, Forster-Caskey has made 24 appearances for Oxford United and Brighton & Hove Albion, scoring 4 goals since 2009.

Out

There were many players being loaned out from Spurs, and these players included new signing Jake Forster-Caskey moving on loan to Colchester United, Harry Kane moving to Brighton & Hove Albion and Souleymane Coulibaly moving to Walsall. Other loan deals included Shaquile Coulthirst going to Cheltenham, Lawrence Vigoroux and Laste Dombaxe going to Newport County, Darren McQueen going to Torquay United, Giancario Gallifuoco going to AFC Wimbledon, Kevin Stewart going to Wycombe Wanderers, Zeki Fryers going to Peterborough and Simon Dawkins going to Swindon.

The two permanent deals were striker Jonathan Obika moving to Bournemouth for £81K and fullback Kyle Naughton moving to Everton for £2.3M.

Tottenham start the Barclays Premier League campaign with games against Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion at home and away respectively. Both new signings are set to start at White Hart Lane, but you never know with Gary Lineker ;)
The guy off the Walkers advert? Will he still do MoTD? Nice signing in Reyes he will do a job for you i'm sure xD GOOD LUCK!
JFC! Not sure how good he will be for you, as one of the top clubs but he is a great talent! Reyes is a great buy as well :D

(Tottenham Hotspur 5 - 0 Jablonec on aggregate)

Lineker's Overall Thoughts
Overall, this was a very, very good month - going unbeaten in every match and only conceding twice. We played 2 tough teams and came out on top with ease. I couldn't have wished for a better start with Norwich, the side played extremely well and I'm happy to have got a solid 2-1 victory. Then, in the second Premier League game, we went to West Brom, a game I expected to be even, and we went and won it 3-1. I was delighted with that. Then, of course, there was Europa League, in our tie against Czech Republican side Jablonec. The first leg was in Czech Republic, and I was happy to see us grab a solid 2-0 win. Then, on our own turf, we smashed them, and to be honest, we could've scored more, but I was more than happy with the scoreline we produced - a 3-0 win.
Really nice start to the story Alex :)
Good luck for the upcoming season!
Love this story :) also Forster-caskey becomes a great player in the future (at least for my brighton team) :)

September 2013

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool
Barclays Premier League
38' - Steven Gerrard [Liverpool]
60' - Daniel Sturridge [Liverpool]
87' - Roberto Soldado [Tottenham Hotspur]
Final Score: Tottenham Hotspur 1 - 2 Liverpool

"Despite the scoreline, I'm actually very happy with the performance we put out. We were unlucky in this game and, while we should've won it on paper, the performance the players went out there and did was all that mattered to me."

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United
Barclays Premier League
14' - Roberto Soldado [Tottenham Hotspur]
43' - Roberto Soldado [Tottenham Hotspur]
68' - Paulinho [Tottenham Hotspur]
Final Score: Tottenham Hotspur 3 - 0 Manchester United

"WOW! After the defeat to Liverpool, I expected the team to lose a bit of confidence, but the fact we beat the reigning champions was outstanding. To win 3-0 is amazing. Soldado's been performing very well, proven by the scoresheet here, and if he continues the way he's going, he's going to become a Spurs legend very quickly."

HJK vs Tottenham Hotspur
Europa League Group E
17' - Erik Lamela [Tottenham Hotspur]
44' - Mousa Dembélé [Tottenham Hotspur]
56' - Paulinho [Tottenham Hotspur]
Final Score: HJK 0 - 3 Tottenham Hotspur

"What a great way to kick off our Europa League campaign! HJK aren't the strongest team in our group of AS Saint-Etienne and Austria Wien, but it was still a great away victory - one that I'm very pleased with."

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur
Barclays Premier League
28' - Christian Eriksen [Tottenham Hotspur]
41' - Papiss Cisse [Newcastle United]
74' - Hatem Ben Arfa [Newcastle United]
Final Score: Newcastle United 2 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

"A game we were expected to win, I'm slightly disappointed with the score and the performance to go with it. I've let the team know my feelings about this game and I hope they can improve on it quickly."

Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham Hotspur
Capital One Cup 3rd Round
20' - Jermain Defoe [Tottenham Hotspur]
22' - Erik Lamela [Tottenham Hotspur]
50' - Christian Eriksen [Tottenham Hotspur]
Final Score: Nottingham Forest 0 - 3 Tottenham Hotspur

"A great bounceback victory after the game against Newcastle, I'm thrilled to be in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup. However, we've drawn a slightly tougher opponent in Premier League side Cardiff City, so we'll need to step it up if we are to progress."

Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur
55' - Erik Lamela [Tottenham Hotspur]
Final Score: Fulham 0 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

"A great way to finish off the month - a convincing victory against a tough side on home turf. I'm delighted with the victory and the performance to go with it. I hope the players can keep it up for October."

Player of the Month - Tottenham

Roberto Soldado scored 3 goals this month, and played brilliantly in every game he played in. This just shows that he is September's Player of the Month for Tottenham Hotspur.
