Gary Lineker: Tottenham Glory
Tottenham continue search for AVB replacement
After Andre Villas Boas was sacked by the Tottenham board a few days ago, rumours are circulating about who his replacement will be at White Hart Lane. At the moment, Tim Sherwood is the caretaker manager, and it seems unclear if Sherwood will be taking on the role permanently or whether someone brand new will take the realms at Spurs. So, today we'll be going through the five top candidates for the job other than 44 year old Sherwood...Roberto Di Matteo
After being sacked by Chelsea in 2012 and being AVB's successor at Stamford Bridge, Roberto Di Matteo has been looking for a job, and with Villas Boas being sacked yet again, Di Matteo seems like one of the best possible people for the role. Having also managed West Bromwich Albion and Milton Keynes Dons, Di Matteo doesn't lack management experience, and also having won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea within a few months, he's not lacking in success, either.
Michael Laudrup
Currently the manager of Premier League side Swansea City, Michael Laudrup has brought much success to Wales, having won the Capital One Cup with the Swans. However, he's also managed Getafe, Mallorca, Spartak Moscow and Brøndby, as well as a stint as Denmark assistant manager. Laudrup has admitted that he's interested in the vacant job at White Hart Lane, but would he be willing to leave the Liberty Stadium to manage Tottenham?
Glenn Hoddle
Glenn Hoddle is no stranger to Tottenham Hotspur, having played there for 12 years and managed there for 2 years from 2001. He's also managed sides such as Chelsea, Southampton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Swindon Town and most notably the England national team. He hasn't managed a team since 2006, but may be willing to go back to White Hart Lane for this opportunity.
Martin O'Neill
Despite being the new manager of the Republic of Ireland, Martin O'Neill has been heavily linked with the vacant spot at Tottenham, and if he was hired, fans would probably be divided. On the positive note, he has a lot of experience in both management and playing - he's managed Sunderland, Aston Villa, Celtic, Leicester City, Norwich City, Wycombe Wanderers, Shepshed Charterhouse and Grantham Town. However, these teams are much, much different to the likes of Spurs, and some would doubt whether he'd be good enough as Tottenham manager.
Thomas Tuchel
Currently manager of German side FSV Mainz 05, Thomas Tuchel is a newby to management, but that doesn't mean that the 40 year old isn't capable of managing a side like Tottenham. He's been heavily linked with various vacant managerial roles throughout the Premier League, but White Hart Lane may be his destination.
So, that's what we think, but who do you think will take over at Tottenham Hotspur? Nobody knows for sure, but it doesn't hurt to guess. Well, unless you bet all of your possessions on Andre Villas Boas randomly returning one day. That'd probably hurt.
