Why Sociedad? A little story

Martín Lasarte - second time should be lucky

I was looking for an unemployed manager (not existing in FM14's database) so i found Martín Lasarte, a 52 years old Uruguayan head coach with a past at Sociedad. Martín played his entire short footballer career (mostly at Deportivo la Coruña) as a defender. He managed Sociedad in the 2009-2011 period, for two seasons, but in June 2011 he was sacked because he didn’t give enough of a chance to academy players and that his style of play was rudimentary and unattractive. So, i chosen him to bring Sociedad back in top in a few years.

Why Lasarte? Solved. Why Sociedad? Read

Real Sociedad is a very nice spanish football team, with great fans, great players and a great mentality. They're playing this season in the UEFA Champions League so that's Martín Lasarte's chance to prove against the Europe's biggest teams that his football isn't at all rudimentary and unattractive. So, that's how i choosed to manage Sociedad and i'm sure this career will last a long-long time.

Cheers from Berlin, guys! Long time FM player, first time story writer.

Martín Lasarte: "I didn't expected to get another chance here"

Arrived last morning in Spain, Martín Lasarte was looking delighted about his new job and looked hopeful about the team's chances in La Liga and UEFA Champions League.

Came with an IBERIA Airlines flight at Madrid Airport last morning, Martín Lasarte had somehow a shocked face and a happy one too. As we saw, he looked like he didn't expected for an offer to come right now, after being sacked from Universidad Católica de Chile. So, the 52 years old Uruguayan coach has to do his best now, and to prove the RSO's board he's not that "boring" coach they named two years ago this time.

Being asked about his goals of the season, he calmly responded to the MARCA's journalist who waited him at the airport: "I know the board expects me to bring Sociedad as high as possible and i will make everything i can to do that. I know the team, i can say that i'm a fan of Real Sociedad and for this season i want a top four finishing i guess and a good performance in Europe. But, these goals are about being fixed after i talk to the squad. It's absolutelly normal.".

After our reporter asked him how he feels taking Sociedad again, he remained calm and answered: "Honestly, i was never seeing RSO's board to give me a chance again, especially not after the team's recent performances. But, what can i say now? I'm happy for Sociedad's takeover and i'm sure i'll do the best i can here!".

Lasarte became a bit angered after being asked about if Antoine Griezmann will leave the team soon, after the recent offers: "Do i look like a coach who wants to sell his team's best players?".

So, a new head coach in Liga BBVA. How will it go?

So, a new update, mates! Hope you'll enjoy it.

Stay tuned, more news soon!
Good luck! :)

Lasarte signed the contract with Sociedad

After making himself waited at Anoeta, Martín Lasarte was unveiled today by Real Sociedad's chairman Jokin Aperribay. He signed an one year deal at San Sebastian and after 30 June 2014 the Sociedad's board of directors needs to evaluate his job to decide the contract extension.

In the project announced by the president, Sociedad wants to qualify for the UEFA Europa League, even if they're currently playing in the UEFA Champions League. They didn't mentioned something about the current European season, so we can believe that they are pleased with just playing in the UEFA Champions League in 2013-2014.

"I won't discuss any transfers story today. I'm delighted to be able to welcome Martín at Anoeta and i'm sure he will contribute in every way possible at our team's glory. We want him to qualify for continental football for the next year and i'm sure he's able to do that. I am confident that he is able to do more and best than last time here. Fans are delighted to welcome him back, i'm sure!" declared the Sociedad's chairman, Jokin Aperribay.

"I talked to the board and we agreed that a continental football qualification would be great. If i will stay here after June 2014 i'm sure that we will be able to play at the same level with the Spanish giants and that's what i promise. I will make Sociedad a really good team and i want us to scare many European level teams. That's what i promise to the fans! We'll be a force!" declared the optimistic Lasarte.

Liassine Cadamuro sold to OM

The first move from Lasarte's new Sociedad Era is a sell. Taking part of the Real Sociedad B's squad, the 25 years old central defender Cadamuro was no longer needed at Anoeta, where he came in 2008 from Sochaux.

Sochaux will take a 3.5% percentage of the €1.2M fee. This amounts to €42K. Making a healthy profit from Cadamuro's departure, Lasarte is currently looking good in the supporter's eyes and they expect him to buy a new centre back as soon as possible.

The Algerian player was looking delighted to play for Marseille, and he declared at the airport: "I wasted 5 years of career at Sociedad and it was the time for a move. I want to thank mr. Lasarte because he let me go. I'm sure that i will do a good job at OM and i will prove Sociedad that i'm not a bad player at all.".

"Cadamuro was no longer needed and that's all. He couldn't make himself adapted here and it was a long time wasted for him staying at Sociedad B. A healthy profit at all. With this amount of money i'm looking for another good center back." declared the new coach Lasarte.

Another player who is expected to leave soon from Anoeta is a central defender too, John Gaztañaga. The 22 years old Spanish player was grew up at Sociedad but he proved that's not a player to help Sociedad in their European dream. A club who's interested in the players's signing is ROU's FC Vaslui.

Star Griezmann not for sale

A real TV-Series story has been created since Martín Lasarte's Sociedad takeover. The Uruguayan manager snubbed offers for Griezmann from top teams like Tottenham, PSG, Liverpool and Manchester City and made from Griezmann's transfer a top subject in entire European sports cotidians.

"17 Milion fee from Tottenham, fifteen from PSG, twelve from Liverpool, eleven from City... i know it sounds unreal but yes, we, Sociedad, snubbed all these offers for Griezmann. He is no doubt one of the best players in Spain and i will make anything i can to keep him at Anoeta as long as possible. A player like him is more than capable to make an impact into European Cups this season and help us into the Liga BBVA so that's the reason why i won't listen to offers for him until 2014." declared Lasarte.

Antoine Griezmann, born 21 March 1991, is a French footballer who currently plays for Spanish club Real Sociedad in La Liga. He plays mainly as a left winger. Griezmann is known for his ball control, quick acceleration, and dribbling and is a French youth international, having represented his country at under-19, under-20, and under-21 level. In 2010, he was part of the team that won the 2010 UEFA European Under-19 Football Championship on home soil.

Griezmann was born in the commune of Mâcon in the département of Saône-et-Loire and began his career playing for hometown club UF Mâcon. While there, he embarked on several trials with professional clubs in order to earn a spot in one of their youth academies, but was constantly rejected due to his size and lightweight frame, which clubs questioned.

In 2005, while on trial with Montpellier, Griezmann played in a friendly match against the youth academy of Paris Saint-Germain in Paris, and impressed several clubs, notably Spanish club Real Sociedad, whose scouts were attending the event. Following the match, the club's officials offered Griezmann a one-week trial in San Sebastián, which he accepted. He was later offered a second-week stay at the club. The club then contacted his parents and formally offered the player a youth contract. Griezmann's parents were initially reluctant to have their son move to Spain, but allowed him to make the move after positive reassurances. In 2009 he signed a pro contract with Sociedad and in 166 appearances he managed to score 44 goals.

"I have to respect Sociedad's decision to keep Antoine at the club even if i want him so much. He's a good player and we'll insist for him in the future for sure." was the declaration of Brendan Rodgers after Liverpool's bid was rejected by Lasarte.

John Gaztañaga travelled this morning to Romania for signind a contract with FC Vaslui. More news will be provided soon.
Nice bunch of updates and interesting background on Griezmann too :) You might want to renew his contract because of his £20m release clause
Some great players in the Sociedad team so hopefully you can do well!
