Priorities

I didn't know what to do at the time; I'd been too frozen by shock. She was back, and I really didn't know if that's what I wanted. With football going so well, would this really help, or would it just distract me?

I'd just showed her to my guest room and told her I had training to attend to early in the morning, and that we could talk tomorrow. That seemed to have left her a little miffed with me for not sorting things out just then, romance film-style, but I was tired and stunned, and sleep was beckoning.

I intentionally left two hours early the next morning, just to make sure she wouldn't be awake when I was. I left her a note, detailing where I was, and told her I'd left some breakfast and lunch in the fridge. I prayed she didn't break anything...with women, you just never know.

All day during training, I could hardly focus. In the middle of each drill I'd catch my mind wandering back to her, how happy we'd been together before...

But that was before; before I'd begun to live my dream as a football manager, before she chose not to be a part of my life. And now, I didn't think I had the time for her, even if perhaps some part of me still wanted her in my life. There was so much to do, the finances to look after, opposition to study, players to scout, tactics to tinker with, training every day for hours, matches almost twice a week...Football was my life now, and nothing was going to change that. My priorities were straight.

It started off alright that night, but once I explained things to her, she didn't seem to understand. I certainly gave more reasons than she ever did back in Chicago, when she stayed and left me to come to San Sebastian alone, but she didn't listen. Perhaps it started alright, but it ended in a lot of screaming.

By 11:00 pm, she'd packed her bags and left, tears streaming down her face. Most of me agreed, I'd made the right choice...

So why were tears still streaming down my face, too?

It was another wonderful month for La Real as the San Sebastian club stormed to 5 victories in 6 games, scoring 3 goals in 4 of the games, showing their lethal touch. Carlos Vela especially found his goalscoring form as he put in 6 during October including a stunning hattrick against Salzburg.

Swiss striker Haris Seferovic also had a wonderful month, continuing his goalscoring form with 4 more goals including a wonderful brace in the final game of the month against Vallodolid. The target man up top has kept home-grown Imanol Agirretxe out of the side and has really made a splash in La Liga this season.

Los Txuri-Urdin did fall to their first Liga BBVA loss to Valencia, however. The two sides had battled to a hard-fought 0-0 in the first 85 minutes, but defenders Joao Pereira and captain Ricardo Costa each scored in the last five minutes to send the Mestalla into a frenzy and give Valencia all 3 points.

The team suffered a major loss against Vallodolid, though not in the sense of results; club captain and star right winger Xabi Prieto was ruled out for 4-5 months with a broken foot after a crunching tackle from Marc Valiente. Prieto is Sociedad's leader and only right sided attacker, and now either Carlos Vela or Antoine Griezmann will have to shift out to the opposite flank.

Hasan was animated in his disdain for the challenge after the match, saying, "It was barbaric. How he wasn't sent off or even booked for an awful tackle like that is beyond me, and now our captain is out for 4-5 months. It's a travesty."

Real Sociedad will now have to start preparing for a busy November which will include a visit to the Santiago Bernabeu to take on the mighty Real Madrid. Until then, however, the La Liga BBVA and Europa League group tables are as follows:

La Liga

Europa League

pompeyblue: Cheers pomp, hopefully we can stay around these spots come end of the season and make the Champions League! :D

Nathaniel: You know what, we're all human, we all make mistakes :P And yes, somehow I'm keeping up, though their goal differential is VASTLY superior.
