Transfer window opens

Bristol City have started 2019 by completing the signing of young South African centre back Siyabonga Zitho from South African Premiership side Wits for a fee of around 300,000 pounds. The 18 year old will spend the remainder of this season developing with the U21 and U18 squads.

Bristol City vs Hull - 1st January 2019
1-0
Draxler 8.3 rating
Draxler 57 mins

Manager's review
Andrew Booy had a few issues to contend with before this New Years Day fixture. Eder Alvarez Balanta was suspended for picking up his 5th yellow card against Swansea, Fanch Le Bras took his place. Esteban Gabriel Jesus Bogado will be out for a couple of weeks as well so Maximilian Meyer took his spot on the right wing. Alex Sandro, Joaquin Guillamon and Julian Draxler also rotated in. Hull had Aaron Cresswell suspended and Danny Drinkwater injured.

The two teams lined up as follows:

Two in at Ashton Gate

Andrew Booy today signed Dutch 21 year old striker Rodney Klein from Ajax for a fee of 2.3 million pounds. The youngsters contract was due to expire in 6 months time, hence the cut price deal. Klein will serve as a backup to the 3 strikers already in the first team squad for the remainder of this campaign.

Bristol City also purchased Portuguese 18 year old defender Sergio Ribeiro from FC Porto for 18.5 million pounds. The young centre back will develop with the U21/U18 squad for this season.

Nottm Forest vs Bristol City - 5th January 2019
0-1

Manager's review
Andrew Booy named his strongest possible side for the 3rd round of the FA cup. Esteban Gabriel Jesus Bogado was still injured so Maximilian Meyer continued on the right wing. Mostafa Abdel Fatah will be unavailable for up to one month as he is with Egypt at the ACON. Forest had Junior Stanislas, Craig Alcock, Liam Palmer, Kyle Bennett, Ryan McLaughlin and Jeremy Helan out injured.

ter Stegen leaves the Gate

German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has left Bristol City for French side Paris St Germain for a fee of 24 million pounds. Since losing his starting place to Gerry Taylor, ter Stegen had become unhappy at playing 2nd string to the young Englishman so it was inevitable he would look for pastures new.

Cardiff vs Bristol City - 8th January 2019
0-0
Tah 7.3 rating
Oxlade-Chamberlain 61 mins

Manager's review
Andrew Booy named a reserve side for his 300th match in charge of Bristol City. Only Stefano Denswil, Jonathan Silva and Mario Buitrago started from the humiliating FA Cup loss at the weekend. Cardiff only had Jack Hunt out injured.

The two teams lined up as follows:

Bristol City let Alex Sandro go

Brazilian left back Alex Sandro has left Ashton Gate after 3 years at the club. He joins French side AS Monaco for a fee of 35 million pounds. The 28 year old made over 100 appearances for City but had lost his place in the starting 11 to summer signing Jonathan Silva. Therefore an offer so high was too hard to turn down for a relatively old squad player.
